Drying in the HVAC duct?
    #26444103 - 01/20/20 11:48 PM (4 years, 27 days ago)

My dehydrator is in storage and I might have a nice flush soon. I was thinking about how to dry and wonder if anyone has ever unscrewed the vent and put them on a paper towel right there in the duct. The fan would be on 24/7 at around 72 with non-stop gentle airflow.

Certainly someone must have tried it right?

IMO the trouble are your small fruit will dry and and be real light and might blow off your tray. I'd just use a fan on low in a small room. But your heaviest fruits closest to the fan.

I have a stealth growing situation, and the closet I'm using doesn't have AC power so I am looking for a way to dry discreetly. It seems easy enough to keep things from blowing away - a small colander with a paper towel will make sort of blow and solve that.

Your parents would be way happier if you just bought them already dried from someone else.

Don't dry them in a fucking vent lol...

You gotta be able to use the oven for an hour or two at some point. Even if you have to do it in increments.

I’d probably strap them to my cars engine block and drive around before using a dusty vent lol.

They are about 40$ and will save you the headache of not getting your mush dry, or just go get your dehydrator out of storage.

It actually seems feasible and stealthy, and why wouldn't it work just fine?

It's easy to make sure there is constant air flow.

And I AM the parent, FYI. Trying to be a good one

will probably work fine. is the flowing air dry?

the other poster is right to get you thinking about them losing enough weight to become mobile.

ripping the stems open the long way and the caps into pizza pie pieces will decrease drying time.

if you have a convection oven just stick them in a tray, middle of the oven, put your stove on low with the convection fan on, keep the door propped open a crack with a kitchen towel, run from midnight to six am, they'll be dry when you wake up.

I'm with Aka. It sounds dusty and dirty.
