Flow hood blower math for multiple blowers?
    #26355954 - 12/01/19 05:29 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

How do adjust "blower math" for multiple blowers?

I am looking at a 24x12 filter at 1" Wg

I can get multiple A455 cheap.

So I need 200 CFM for a 24x12 filter to get 100CFM per sq foot.

Some possible key specs:
350/250 CFM at 0.5" (if we half the fan requirement)
68/40 CFM at 1" (if the Wg remains - which I think it does).

So Can I use two A455 (remember cheap) to get 100CFM across 24x12" ?

Or would this just produce 68/40 CFM (not enough) each across the 24x12?

It "feels like" the 1" Wg "extends across the surface area" and that two of A455 would just provide 68/40 CFM tops on the 24x12" filter.

Comments? Thoughts? Thanks!

For others edification. The 1" Wg rating is dimensionless so applies across the entire surface area. So we must use the 1" Wg rating of 68/40 CFM.

Since we need 200 CFM minimum for the 24x12 then we would need 3 of those A455 fans.

3 x 68 CFM = 206 CFM which barely makes it on the high setting - with a useless low setting.

5 x 40 CFM = 200 CFM which barely makes it on the low setting - but providing 340 CFM on high.

So that's how the math works. Still straight up. For the given resistance divide it by the blower's rating at that resistance. Round up to number of fans.

In this case that blower at $80 an outstanding price would still have been marginal even with free shipping as the proper single blower would have matched or less than that price of $240ish + S&H
