Any ideas on what this is? It looks like burnt/carmelized sugars that you can get when distilling at too high temperatures. Its on the glass between a piece of pelletized gypsum and a couple grains.

I posted this in cult general discussion and didn't get any hits. Figured I'd try one last time making a thread for it. I think I remember seeing this is the past and it not being a problem at all but anyone know what's going on here?

Thats quite the buffet of grains you got there. I don't see any cause for concern.

Lol yea I like making grain mixes.
So I'm sure it's no cause for concern but you do see what I'm talking about correct? The black sticky looking fluid on a couple spots. I've seen this before. It looks just like burnt/carmelized sugar. I'm really interested to know what it is. Or atleast what people think it may be and curious if its common or if people have seen it on there own grains.
I think I distinctly remember it coming off the gypsum in the past also? Idk.

So its popped up on 2 more jars. Seems to be coming from the gypsum.

Idk wth this stuff is but I feel like its harmless and it doesnt seem to be spreading as far as I can tell I think maybe the gypsum pellets absorbed grain water and it darkened after pressure cooking now it's starting to release it. Just a theory but no one else seems to have any input?

I don’t think overcooking your grains will caramelize them... Looks like metabolites and bacteria. If your jars stall out or it continues to grow then you know it’s an issue. Give em a shake around 30-50% and that should disperse everything, including potential bacteria/contaminants. If it recovers fast and clean you’re good, if it ain’t you’ll know.

Check out the section on how it shouldn’t look in this thread

I never claimed it to be carmelized grains. I mentioned it looks similar to carmelized sugars when distilling. Not that its carmelized grains? I did say darkened grain water maybe this is what you are Confused by? Also this looks like neither metabolites nor any bacteria I've ever seen.
To be honest you didnt tell me anything I haven't already known for years but thanks for the very generic noob friendly answer. I think I may have posted in that thread like 7 years ago but thanks for the link anyways. Lol.
Also how you been? Haven't seen you around in awhile.

Sorry, wasn’t trying to offend ya with my opinion. Simply offering my two cents. It may very well be something related to overcooking/caramelization, but I think you would have seen that as soon as you PC’d them. You mentioned that the spots are popping up where they weren’t. It looks slimy from what I can see. It could be nothing ominous. I have no clue what’s going with your jars this early on. If it continues to grow and spread, I would assume bacteria.

And thanks for checking in, I’m doing great dude. Good to see you still around.

Sorry didn't mean to come off as a dick I can do that sometimes I can see how it would have sounded like I was offended
I dont think it's from overcooking but it only seems to be coming from peletized gypsum so I'm thinking its liquid that was absorbed by the gypsum. I guess it sort of does look slimey but not like bacteria looks on a plate. I dont know for sure if it just popped up or if I'm just noticing it but it also only seems to be happening against the glass along with condensation idk if that means anything.

Good to hear that you're doing great bud. I believe we did some trading back in the day right? Maybe not but I remember conversating with you in the past. It's nice talking again man I'm glad you posted here and thanks for taking out the time to help I appreciate it.

There is no smell coming off of the filter and Im not going to open it to smell it. I will probably give er a sniff before spawning.
May even use these jars in a shoebox instead of spawning to a mono. I don't think it's anything of concern but I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if it spreads at all.

I think its safe to assume this is not a common occurrence being that no one has identified it thus far.

Anyways thanks for the help guys I'll just watch it and see what happens if I can figure out what's going on or if I have any pics to add to this I'll update in this thread to let everyone know what came of it.
