Oyster parasite? lumps in the gills
    #26444060 - 01/20/20 11:00 PM (4 years, 9 days ago)

I spotted these pleurotus ostreatus today. Upon closer inspection, I found several tiny white lumps attached to the gills. They could not rub or wash off. I'm pretty sure it is a parasite of some kind.

Is anyone else familiar with this?

Are the oysters no longer edible?
(I mean, could this parasite produce toxic compounds?)

I tried searching out this info on Google, to no avail. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

After more research, I'm realizing that myco-viruses are even less understood than taxonomic relationships...

I may have just discovered mushroom herpes?

Also, after tearing into them and inspecting further, there is no sign of worms/bugs, mold, or other symptoms.

Could be a parasite, but I'm not aware of any species-specific to Pleurotus.
Try to look at it in a microscope. Could perhaps just be something cellular.
