JSB, are you really English? I hope you are aware of the crimes against humanity committed by the English empire on almost every continent... I guess they skipped Antarctica. Even the USA inherits most of its atrocities from the British.
I don't hold you personally responsible for the past atrocities of your nation, and my original point was that you likewise shouldn't.
Mate, I'm already embarrassed to be a human being, and part of this cluserfuck of a species. It's cute that you're tryig to drag me down to your level and make me feel bad in retaliation for me sharing my observations about what's inside the imaginary lines that you love so much, but it's because of the way Americans react to it that I love to do it so much. They take it personally. No one else I know, from any other country in the world, does that. They take the piss out of the place they came from, they'll laugh about the bullshit. Here it's all so serious. Just look at what an enlightened American has to say on the subject:
The highest possible form of treason is to say that Americans aren't loved wherever they go, whatever they do. --Kurt Vonnegut, Cat's Cradle
But at the same time, even given all the cruel irony of being a human, there's something deeply spiritual and beautiful about this existence. I love every one of my brothers and sisters on this planet very dearly. Like everyone else I'm fighting a hard battle to try and make right of all this, as best I can. I'm doing really well too; I'm very happy and peaceful and I bring a lot of happiness to a lot of people. So I sometimes blow off a bit of steam by taking the piss out of the country I live in with people that live there too?
I'd be doing the exact same thing in any other country I lived in.
Knowing that you are disingenuous and sarcastic with all your statements, I don't know where to begin.
If you truly are in self-loathing based on your own existence and not on any actions you have taken, I think you should seriously consider counseling. That is no way to live. But I know you are just being facetious, so what was the point of your fake introduction? You claim Americans are unable to critique their own country, on a thread full of Americans happy to critique and insult their own country.
You seem to enjoy sowing strife here, so your claims seem a bit vapid.
And you quote Vonnegut, an esteemed writer, and interestingly leave out the entire context.
Quote:
"What was so awful about the letter?" I asked. "The highest possible form of treason," said Minton, "is to say that Americans aren't loved wherever they go, whatever they do. Claire tried to make the point that American foreign policy should recognize hate rather than imagine love." "I guess Americans are hated a lot of places." "People are hated a lot of places. Claire pointed out in her letter that Americans, in being hated, were simply paying the normal penalty for being people, and that they were foolish to think they should somehow be exempted from that penalty. But the loyalty board didn't pay any attention to that. All they knew was that Claire and I both felt that Americans were unloved."

For making the additional effort. You're still well off the mark but it's been fun.

Most of this country hasn’t even had 1% of the population infected. Maybe NYC is at 10%. It’s too bad we don’t even have a fucking strategy to figure that out.
Spain did a fairly extensive serology study and they figured about 5.5% of that country had been infected , with about 15% in Madrid.
If you go with a CFR of 1.3% which I think is a very reasonable estimate, then based on our fatalities, about 2.5% of the population has been infected.

Derail a thread by 3 pages in the pub , but then threaten/bully people by private message for bumping an old thread with relevant posts. ??
Wow
I came here to talk about Covid-19, not 3 pages of your off topic rant about what you personally believe in your personal life.

But back on topic!
Everyone: The covid is SPIKING . I'm advising y'all to prepare now. While there are no limits of groceries and still plenty of stocked items, I would go ahead and stock up now before the panic Re-hits.
People are getting comfortable and letting their guard down and that's why there's a spike. Just imagine if this uptrend continues and people still are acting like idiots not wearing masks, gathering in large crowds/protests, etc.
Please for the sake of the vulnerable , if you've let your guard down, get it back up!
And start stocking up again. Places are even starting to get Isopropyl alcohol back in!!!!!

Oh that chat where I said I'd go out of my way and bring it up with the staff for you and get back to you with consensus?
I called it 'Official policy/consensus on bumping really old threads' and it's still being discussed. So far it's agreed that n00bs get a pass.
I didn't realize that you had quoted one of your puppets when you brought it back from the dead, so that made it a little more interesting to navigate.

Think of the logistics involved to be able to say there is 6000 new cases in a day in a state. There will be a poimt at which we are just unable to accurately represent true stats based ssolely upon logistics.
I think 1 percent reported conservatively looks more like 2. And the error margin will compound.

TL/didn't read/won't engage.
I can't believe how hard Brazil is getting hit right now.
I've been there to the Favelas and there IS NO social distancing.
PLEASE PEOPLE- Wise up. Stop getting comfortable and going to political rallies, personal belief protests, or pool parties. Heck anything like that.
Also, a bit more info for some of the people with teh Affordable Care act.
You can get the Covid Anti body test for FREE and the Co-pay for the doctor visit will be waived.
But always get that in writing first. I was told the original covid swab test cost $1000!

I do think our fatality rate is likely to be significantly lower with this wave. A lot of the older population is already sequestered away this time and this wave will be focused more on younger people. Also we do have some decent therapeutics now and a better understanding of the disease process.
That being said the scale of the outbreak this time is likely to be much bigger and we lack the resolve to implement strong measures. So significantly more cases at a lower death rate. Probably another 100k deaths by mid September.

Covid testing is free by law. It was part of the first covid stimulus bill.
We’re in a race to the bottom with Brazil.

(That number is stunning for either country. Whether you believe it or not, China maxed out at 90,000 cases total and we’re doing that every two days)

I'd say that's highly likely!
Given the non symptomatic nature of the virus it's important to remember to isolate yourself if you think you've been exposed, but for how long? That is something that I am trying to figure out.
And the whole mask consensus. There IS NO consensus. The entire covid thing has been chock full of unknowns, and skill is.
My only suggestion is to stay out of the large crowds and learn to protest/be political in a safe way. Wearing a mask won't stop you from GETTING the virus. It will just help you to stop spreading it more easily if you ALREADY HAVE IT.
So people wearing masks thinking they are invincible are very wrong! SCIENCE

Protesting outside with a mask is safe. I think the data has proven this. It’s been three weeks since the daily protests in DC started and we had 26 new cases today

Look I don’t know how many really got infected in their outbreak but it simply undeniable that they have essentially shut down the virus inside the country.

Ah I doubt it. I know they took a more drastic approach than the states but I do not believe their numbers one bit. I am sure it is still rampant like in the USA.

Nah if anyone has the ability to do all the intrusive surveillance and draconian quarantines required to completely stop the spread of a virus, it’s China. You can’t move around cities without scanning your personal barcode that tracks your location and identifies potential contacts with infected people. It’s highly effective. They had a minor outbreak of a couple people in a huge market and they shut it down.
In terms of coverups, what we’ve seen in this country is just as bad as what people accuse China of doing. Our president has flat out admitted that he told people to slow down testing to reduce the case count. How is that any different?
