Story is now more powerful than truth.

People's lives have a price and that price turns out to be far more expensive than the story is willing to allow.

The decision has been made to let it run it's course.

There will be many many more deaths.
The economy will survive in a far better shape then if we're to have been encumbered with the emotion driven struggle for life and death.

This pandemic started with one.
There is now plenty of 1s.
This has not even started.

It’s amazing to me how many otherwise intelligent people don’t make sense on this topic. I mean in general. I think it’s probably in part a sensitivity to risk and danger thing.

There’s so much we still do not know about covid-19. Especially longitudinally. What sort of chronic health issues may follow, in what proportion of survivors? How much will this cost and burden future healthcare?  Having lawyers and businessmen determine how this is handled is just a total mismatch and is just unfortunate. They’re taking a gamble with humanity’s health and future. Giving this thing more people to infect and opportunities to evolve and survive into the future is not wise.

It's such a weird combination of nihilism, denial, tribalism, ignorance, willful ignorance, self-centeredness, petulance, defensive coping, naivety, and many other fun words coupled with a society whose education system in no way prepared them to understand things like virology and epidemiology. It's no surprise there's a heavy overlap between COVID-deniers and climate change deniers, conspiracy theorists etc. When reality sucks, you can just invent your own where you're the smart one and everything bad happening is caused by a shadowy enemy you can spend your time trying to expose. I've had conversations with neuroscientists that turned out to be flat earthers... there just seems to be gaps in people that are filled by the oddest things.

That's probably only a small portion of what's going on. Fortunately there are a whole lot of sane and compassionate people out there as well. The yin and yang forever interwined :yinyang:

The longer I stare at one side.
The less I know of the other.
Getting upset at cruelty.
I don't know why I bother.

No singularity exists.
War without peace.
Love without hate.
Action without fate.

This is what it's all about.
Never to be stationary.
Not to be confused with complacency.
Realising Yin is Yang's clout.

We been pushed from the Centre point of the pendulum.
Occasionally meeting in the middle.
Telling each others experiences but always in riddle.

Experiencing other with each and every tick.
If one side is healthy.
The other must be sick.

So it would seem that to wish away the evil.
To know what's on the other side.
Would leave us caught in the middle.
With no subjectivity to imbibe.

I find it quite hilarious, people are forced to wear face coverings when entering a restaurant.

Where's vapenado?

One cough and a building could be considered contaminanted and be forced to shut down for cleaning.

Money? Can't make that on your on anymore. But $1,200 should get you by. Oh, and here's a little extra unemployment, just to give a sense of just how underpaid a majority of people are. And I hope there's children in the house, they'll give you a little extra, even though it's already been spent on mortgage.

How's it going to be when these rent and mortgage companies start demanding rent again? And counties and cities and states remain closed?

What happens is, people lose their homes. Then what? Who is to blame for even more millions of homelessness? When states could have opened weeks ago, allowing people an opportunity to make a living.

Forget a virus. There's a tidal wave of evictions on our horizons.

You're conflating two separate issues and turning in to one.

Both are real problems but both would've existed on their own.

Both can be fixed.

The economic model that has brought us to the edge has been exposed by a virus.

Lets do something about both.

i mean, we have another thread about whether essential workers should be paid a living wage - and people are saying they shouldn't. even though cashiers and the like make up a huge portion of the workforce, and the average fast food worker is like 30 years old or more. that's not a kid still in high school. that's a parent with kids. a person paying rent.

and people are saying they shouldn't get paid a living wage. despite the fact that it would massively help the economy by simple virtue of the fact that a huge portion of the workforce suddenly having enough to pay all their bills, not be in debt, and still have a little bit of money left over to SPEND each month on luxury goods would provide a huge boost to growth, far more than a handful of 0.1%ers buying a few more luxury yachts for their collection or another McMansion. it's quite frankly surprising and a testament to the sheer cleverness of americas poor that they've gotten this far, this long, without the economy simply collapsing from all the debt before now. people bitch about people buying soda and chips and crappy food with food stamps, but that shit is really high in calories per dollar spent, and quick and easy to prepare - great for when you're working 60-80 hours a week and too exhausted to cook between shifts, and too poor to spend any of your actual income on food.

but there's so many real, better paying jobs! people say, and there are...but not enough. there, simply put, needs to be people who are cashiers, food processing workers, farmers and cherry pickers, baggers and janitors, and the sheer number of low paying jobs that require minimal knowledge and little more than a pair of hands... and there's a LOT of them. far, far, far more than there are high schoolers willing to do the job. the bottom of the barrel does not deserve to live in squalor simply because you do not want to pay 5 cents more for your bag of doritos.

I'm afraid it will take something drastically terrible for the world to adopt a new economic model and we aren't nearly there yet.

Good luck with those mask when eviction notices are stapled on doors.

Nevermind vitamin C, and Zinc, and Magnesium and personal health, you know, these are simple things too, to prevent a lockdown because less people would fall ill with a stronger immune system.

Just wear your mask.

Even after all this data has been gathered and released, death rates are still on par with seasonal flu.

Millions are not dead.

So much death today from Covid. Would you look at that, +2.

I may get a +2 on this post.

:barbershreds:

And yeah, I see that +19 up there. So what. 19? Seriously?

Guess all these mask people can't figure out how to wear properly, are working.

You've been active in this thread for this long and you're still not learning anything. At this point you're just being willfully ignorant. The reason you know the term "flatten the curve" is because it wasn't about stopping it, it was about the overall load on the healthcare system which as it increases causes a decrease in available critical care. This is why Italy had so many deaths all at once. The hospitals became overloaded. I don't know what's so complicated about that idea. How the hell can you compare it to seasonal flu when the whole planet has taken precautions?
