I forgot to put on my mask at 711 today and nobody said anything hit I felt very self conscious. I’m definitely slipping. I haven’t seen my hand sanitizer in two days

breaking news

apparently covid is very selective in who it attacks.

I guess covid targets churches/synagogues/religious congregations, private businesses and peaceful protests where people are exercising their right to bear arms but not people rioting in support of blm.

I never would have thought covid would be so woke but the media said people participating in the former three things were awful and stupid and  killing grandma but they are defending the latter.

It seems like NYC police resources are actually better spent making sure religious jews don't gather for services and ceremonies than they are breaking up riots and keeping criminals detained.

\end sarcasm

serious disclaimer for the people who are bound to jump all over me: police brutality is very bad, I'm glad the officers involved in the George floyd case were fired and the one who held his knee on his neck for several minutes while he called for help was arrested. that was truly awful.

I am in no way defending George floyds death. I'm just wondering where all the outrage and accusations of killing grandma are when it comes to causes the media like.

I barely use hand sanitizer anymore. CDC said it isn't really spreading through contact with surfaces and I don't care if I get it anyway. I just wear a mask and try to keep my distance when possible to avoid infecting others incase I'm infected but asymptomatic.

I still don't touch eyes nose or mouth when I'm out but I'm not too concerned with touching surfaces.

Picture from Toronto Floyd protests:

Ottawa:

Picture from Winnipeg protests arguing that the province is not reopening fast enough:

Personally criticized the Winnipeg protests about 3 days ago
and while still not approving of the issues with social distancing in the Floyd protests
at least people are still practicing wearing masks and using hand sanitizer at them

and while there is no "real reason" for Canada to be having solidarity protests over violence of US police officers
within the US, consider the Floyd protests to be a much more valid reason to be out en masse than wanting a haircut

Trudeau still frightened of Covid, while Trump is busy being frightened of citizens

I think this is very important to remember. The virus doesn’t care about the law.

I’m personally not trading my lungs to get the shit beat out of me by some pig.

Even if collectively we’ve seemed to have given up I’m still trying to avoid covid until there’s a vaccine even if I have to socially distance forever.

While I’m not personally concerned about this much anymore, I’m not sure the country writ large is prepared for what might be coming. With life essentially returning to normal, if spread proliferates and hospital caseloads spike, I’m honestly not sure if people can handle another big wave of this thing, psychologically.

If an additional hundreds of millions are going to get this thing before the fire burns out, that could be an additional hundreds of thousands of deaths. It’s a catastrophe no one is talking about anymore.

One topic I keep seeing absent from discussion—I read that nearly half of asymptomatic cases (on the diamond princess ship?) had visible lung damage. What portion of this will heal; what portion becomes scarring? These are questions we should be asking: what is the longitudinal arch post “recovery?” We don’t know yet.  The chronic burden on our healthcare system from this is may be bigger than ppl realize right now.

I had a conversation with a teenager at my job this week.  I asked if she was afraid of the virus.  She told me she wasn't.  She gets colds all the time and this is no different than a cold.  She even said, "You only live once".

I told her she was young, so she still had a lot of gambling chips left in her life pile.  Yeah, she's 17 and if she gets this, she will probably fight it off.  As you get older, though, that pile of gambling chips really starts to thin out.  Yes, you only live once, but I'd rather save my chips to stay in the game longer.

Like it or not getting sick and getting sick & dying is an immutable part of existence.  Try as we might to alter that universal truth, it remains.  All we can do is fight or surrender to any sickness when they happen upon us.  Life has always and will always be like that for the human being.

No, we can also wear seatbelts, wear a helmet, wear a wintercoat, concealed carry, eat a vitamin, look to both sides when crossing the street, in other words TAKE PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

When you got it, yes you fight or you surrender, but an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure.

I presumed prevention in regards to all things that can cause sicknesses, but in case it wasn’t tacit enough - there ya go.

Prevention too..not just fight or surrender.  Although I figured it was obviously implied in the word fight.

If these scientists were experts in a relevant field you would have said so. Nobody cares what an unemployed alcoholic geologist has to say about virology. I bet this conversation happened in the middle of a normal workday.
