Except that respirators do nothing to protect people around you. They protect the wearer, but if you're an asymptomatic transmitter then respirators do nothing to help stop you from spreading it to others unless you put tape or something over the exhale exhaust.
Dewd I'm not wearing those garbage ones they do nothing anyway I'm not some bum. I have preexisting conditions that make it hard to breath with the mask on.

Virus isn’t floating on its own out your mouth... it’s in the exhalations and coughs traveling in the mass of vapors & mucosa - a part of the globular shiznaz comprised of other stuff too...not just virus.
Masks are a moderate protective deterrent, they serve a dual purpose.

Noob lysol sprays entire room. Showers, brush teeth. Hair net. Gloves. Arm sleeves. Mask. Holds breath.
Still gets contamination
It's like trying to go outside in drizzle or a rainstorm and not get hit by a single drop.
Cut down 99% of a billion microscopic particles you still have to avoid tens of thousands of particles.
It's really all or nothing. so much so in fact it takes weeks of training to do it right

You literally just pulled that out of your ass. We spend two weeks of school just learning how to wash our hands and wear ppe correctly. It works when you do it right.
My whole fucking state since December has hospitalized under 500 people for covid. And besides Madison and Milwaukee hasn't enforced anything.

for that. I got a couple of those too and am aware of their limitations and questionable performance. I rarely need a mask because I stay at home and practice social distancing. ((I'm retired) The few times a month I do shop or bank or whatever I wear my 95 mask with an added surgical mask if it's crowded. Btw, I haven't even gassed up the car in over 6 weeks and still have 1/2 a tank.
If I really needed protection I'd just use one of my leftover P100 HEPA filtered respirators from my asbestos removal days. I've fit-tested hundreds of people throughout my 25 years in the industry and probably know as much about masks as anyone here.
And if somebodys' state barely has any exposure, good for them, but if some un-masked putz gets within cane swinging distance of me I'll let him have it(or at least hear it)

Well, this puts our conversation into more perspective. Especially the panic attacks. Apparently one of her colleagues killed himself in the parking lot of the hospital by OD.

Yea I'm not sure what the 3m respirator model is but using anything with a blow valve in public right now is the ultimate "I'm a selfish fuck." move.
my n95s have respirator valves because they are the only genuine, face-fitting n95s i could find. I got some of those kn95s that ythan mentioned and yeah they are fine but since I have real n95s I figure I might as well use them. but I wear a surgical mask over top of it. i just have a few personal n95s and I rotate leave them out in the sun on a rotation.

imagine having to wear 2 masks for 12 hours. talk about headache. the longer assholes like you walk around refusing to care about the longer we have to keep this up
TBH though if you can't breathe with a mask on you either a) already have covid or b) have COPD from smoking too much of whatever you're smoking

I saw a coworker from my last project (big national bank) when I was grocery shopping today. They said that 95% of people in the office are working from home. However, a couple things happened at work for them that are note-worthy:
1. This woman who works there told my coworker that her partner/girlfriend was very sick from COVID and had to stay in the bed for weeks. This woman still has been coming to work, though! She told my coworker that she is asymptomatic, but that means she can still spread the virus! I can't believe she would come in like that.
2. My coworker said that some emails from higher ups have been circulating that are looking down on the fact that some people are wearing masks in the office. What the fuck?!?!? Does the bank not want people to use masks to reduce the virus spread? I am soooo glad I have a work from home project now.

shoulda stayed in Saskatchewan

so the data on my province (Manitoba) suggests better controls or lagging in testing or something
Quote:
To date, Manitoba has tested 4,520 of its 1.38 million residents, which means 0.3 per cent of the population has been sampled.
Saskatchewan has just under 1.2 million people and has tested 5,757 of them, or 0.5 per cent of the populace.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-saskatchewan-covid-disparity-1.5508342
but the numbers are so small it's not feasible to confirm anything yet it seems like it could be the case that because Alberta has had so many community infections and is in close(r) proximity to a number of Saskatchewan population bases that Saskatchewan has spilled over into community-based spread while Manitoba seems to have reached some containment to travellers
So waited on numbers for a bit after the Manitoba government announced the huge lag in testing but we seem to have caught up and stuff everything is still under lockdown, and while places like Saskatchewan are looking at coming off lockdown at the start of May, Manitoba still has no timeline for reopening

Contrary to my initial input of staying in Saskatchewan being beneficial it appears Manitoba has proportionally much fewer cases and while we have been reopening with regular testing available, we have not been seeing many new cases

My state (South Australia) has 0 active cases of covid. The last patient recovered a couple days ago (Yay us!). Our borders to the other states and the rest of the world are completely closed.
I haven't heard anyone say its a hoax or propaganda. Barely anyone complained. We all just shut down, and were responsible with social distancing. Now it's over and we're starting to open back up.
I seriously feel sorry for the partisan shitstorm that is America right now. Everyone automatically distrusts anyone that isn't telling them exactly what they want to hear.
Stay safe, and stay away from my state

Oh boy, if you think wearing a mask makes breathing hard, you should experience a ventilator.
