My friend in his mid 40s who caught it last month and is no longer testing positive for it says he can't walk to the end of his driveway without getting winded. There is a good chance many people who get this are in for years or decades or even a lifetime of problems. Boris Johnson's doctor is calling rona "this generation's polio"

Yea my cousin is 8 weeks out now and still struggling hard, went back to the hospital a week or two ago because she wasn't getting better and she still had the blood oxygen level of a COPD patient.
Some research came out today on the effects on kidneys:
Quote:
In the largest study of its kind to date, a team of investigators at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research analyzed the electronic health records (EHR) of 5,449 hospitalized COVID-19 patients between March 1, 2020, and April 5, 2020 and determined that 36.6 percent (1,993 patients) developed AKI. Among patients with AKI at the study’s conclusion, 39.1 percent (780 out of 1,993) were still hospitalized.
AKI is a sudden episode of kidney failure or damage, preventing waste from being filtered within the body and can often lead to death. Most cases developed early in a patient’s hospitalization, with 37.3 percent either arriving with AKI or developing it within 24 hours

Nobody wants to work around here. It's crazy Ive been getting so many calls every week from hiring agents trying to get me interviewed to work for them, in machining for manufacturing. They're offering more and more money than ever. It's because 85% of the people who worked those jobs were obese and pre- if not - diabetic and care for their elderly families. They're leaving their jobs and won't come back because unemployment is paying too good and they don't wanna get Corona.
I wonder what will happen to those people if COVID really never goes away

the note about "predominantly minority" + the age group has me thinking a lot of cases are older generation family members living in a house with those who are not social distancing
That makes sense, a lot of older generation people I see around Vancouver are not doing social distancing at all.
I also believe Montreal has a lot of immigrant communities that live in really large groups, and the outbreak there is insane.

Yep it seems like there is a lot of long-term damage caused by the virus that we dont know about yet. i've also read that the virus can cause heart attacks, and other diseases/illnesses that are completely unrel ated to a typical "flu".
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being this generations polio.

Every bar in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee and Madison was absolutely fucking jam packed yesterday night.

Couldn't sit at the bar nor stand. No room inside. Took 45m to get potato chips

Very sorry to nhear this of your friend, but we've known in this thread for months that lasting damage is one of the main risks of COVID.
Its like the Sarin nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway, the actual number of people killed was quite low, the amount of people left injured after the fact was a lot larger.
Sorry that it hit your friend that way.

Staying inside is like keeping a vegetable on life support. No reason to even be alive if you can't do anything.
Some people like to be productive and don't give a fuck about the risk. There were plenty of what I would have called extremely high risk people at the bar. If they're willing to take their health into their own hands and make their heart pump for 2, or 3, then they should get the same freedom to experience covid too.
If you're so worried. Stay home yourself.
The rest of us will ride motorcycles on the freeway without helmets next to drunk drivers on the way to gatherings of 10 or more.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some such groups, or even the 'lone rangers, that would otherwise be out launching random 'rampage attacks', aren't already planning to use this virus, once they get their hands on a sample to kill as many as posible, and keep the pandemic going for as long as they can.
Imagine one such that has had the illness, survived and kept a sample. Maybe even one of the more nihilist among the shroomery membership. Armed with the materials and their rudimentary knowledge at hand, to propagate and transmit it once the lockdown is lifted.
It also wouldn't surprise me that some people, many, guessing from their posts here, would troll others in public, on public transport and the like, by intentionly coughing and sneezing in crowded areas.

Im actually surprised about that figure for AKI. Seems low. It is no surprise that people with low o2 and low blood pressure have failing kidneys, or failing any organ. Aki is very common in a critical care setting, we treat and reverse it all the time. It is the people with CKD who cant handle further insult to the kidneys, they already have elevated potassium and low erythropoeitin, making them anemic and develop dysrhythmias. You damage those kidneys even more and its over. Your pancreas, your liver, your gi tract- these organs go first when organs start to fail due to shock
We have known about fibrosis resulting from ARDS already. The way the media keepa operating is to pretend medical personnel are surprised and spooked by the behavior of covid19: "ohhhh long term lung damage, ohhhh kidney failure, ooooo kawasaki disease (or whatever name they gave the new one even though it is probably the same damn thing)". All of these are things you would expect to see in patients who have an infection of any kind that is bad enough to lead to septic shock. Not that they arent bad. Just expected. Stay tuned for articles in the future where they try to act like we just realized it damages the pancreas. Nah. It has been known, they just havent written that story yet because it sounds less scary than lung or kidney damage and they are in a ratings battle for your fear right now

In Holland we have a habit of cussing with diseases.
Now that COVID is doing rounds, the number of cops and service personnal who get spat or coughed in the face deliberately is huge. A lot of people are weaponizing either COVID or the fear of COVID.
We dont just wish nasty diseases upon each other, many of us arent above deliberately infecting people with actual diseases, like junkies threatening with an AIDS needle.
Its disgusting.
