Why is everyone freaking out about this?
Is it worse than any regular flue going around?
Yes, That is why they quarantined China. I can't remember a time in recent history when that many people were quarantined. As usual it is old people and young who get it the worst. I guess if you're middle aged and don't have kids or older friends then there isn't too much to worry about on a personal level.

That's not necessarily true. If this gets bad then young/middle aged people will become infected and there won't be enough hospital rooms to treat everyone. Can a person survive pneumonia (the main way COVID19 kills) by them self in their home? if not then people will be dying all over

Yes, I agree. I was talking about what would happen if you got sick like today or very near future. Still even if it gets really bad in the US, the middle aged people have the best chance of fighting it.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/
As of 5 days ago, there have been no reported deaths of kids between 0 and 9 years old. Like seedlings, kids are generally pretty robust.
The mortality rate seems pretty low until the age 60+.
I'd think the mortality rate for anything climbs pretty quickly after 60 years old so not sure if there is much we can gather from those numbers.
I suspect this is going to travel quickly through Mexico and filter North as a result. Unless all border crossings are closed, but even then every day people come over through other routes.

That's good to hear and thanks for the link. I thought I read that kids would be more susceptible to this like with the normal flu. I guess I got some bad information.
A lot of the news seems to be most concerned about the stock market. The time to invest is usually when you think that it's the worst time to invest, which would be now. Anyone buying any stocks or is anyone waiting until it gets worse?

They can. It depends on how bad it is, how well they're able to eat, if they are being cared for by loved ones, ect.
Not sure if this would be considered what is normally called walking pneumonia as it's caused by a virus and not a physiological defect (such as COPD) and most people who have walking pneumonia recover at home but... yeah it's really dependant. Maybe someone who knows more about different types of pneumonia can confirm or correct me there.
The countries/areas unlikely to handle the influx of patients are also unlikely to have good conditions for recovery at home as well. So... it's perhaps a moot point.

I haven't seen any of the articles referencing 'walking' pneumonia. I'm familiar with the term as I've had it several times over the years from tobacco use.
I read that walking pneumonia is characterized by a dry hacking cough with mild fever, sore throat, etc. But pneumonia that COVID-19 causes is the kind the King of England had in Braveheart- deep gurgling, wheezing, mucus producing pneumonia.

Do you seriously think the Chinese government who so readily sacrifices individuals for the greater good is wrecking its economy by quarantining 700 million people and closing major trade ports on a whim? That's ignorant, sorry.
China would put 10 millon people in a concentration camp if it benefitted the economy.
The mainstream media are the boy who cried wolf.
But now there IS a wolf.
20% of documented cases requires hospitalization. 5% of documented cases gets respiratory failure, multiple organ failure or septic shock.

Iran Confirmed: 388 Deaths: 34 Recovered: 73 Existing: 281
Italy got it later, a first world country:
Italy Confirmed: 888 Deaths: 21 Recovered: 46 Existing: 821
Thats not fear. Thats a clusterfuck.

Asante. I don't know how many times it has been explained in the thread. But you realy need to understand that your hypothesis on death rate is completely rediculus.
The number of unchecked cases at the moment is extremely high, and those needs to be considered to estimate the death rate.
Scientists have estimated the death rate. Look at their numbers instead of trying to calculate your own. Doing that is ignorant, just as bodhisatta is ignorant when claiming this is like a normal flu... You are both polarizing the discussion...
Date rates: Normal Flue: 0,1% Spanish flu: 10-20% Covid19: 0,25-4,0%
Covid numbers are extremely preliminary off course....
