I have zero faith that this government is competent enough to pull off what other countries are. I get the feeling it's going to be trillions of dollars wasted, millions of jobs lost, and that will be in addition to the full health and economic effects of the virus spreading anyway when we fail to control it while trying to open economy back up.

Lol. Some people just can’t comprehend life’s little nuances. If things aren’t plain as black and white, they flip out thinking there is no sense to anything.
Those poor brave toddlers have given me a permanent case of the giggles.

Yeah I live near one (or the) largest grass seed farms in the US/world - last year the pollen & allergies were terrible for a lot of people - this year I don't notice anything yet. I wonder if it was even the pollen or something that's temporarily ceased?

Last week, they protested in Kentucky to reopen the economy, citing "mUh fReEdOmZ!"
Yesterday, Kentucky reported their highest increase in COVID infections.

Yeah, freedom of speech is actually starting to look bad to me for the first time. 33% joking, 66% not joking
The upside of a free society gets eclipsed when half the population are idiots with freedom making things worse for the other half. I wonder if education is working sometimes. God I still have a nightmare once a week of what would happen if the virus was much more deadly, Bam bam.
I’ll still take it over anything else though... we’ll besides an absolute monarchy with me on the throne making things hell.

I'm kinda hoping that an as yet to be discovered side effect of the virus, is infertility, preferably among those that are asymptomatic and reckless. Tha yoofs.

Neither, they are the fault of peoples irrationality. You can still go to the hospital for those emergencies, people just choose not to.

Here’s something JokeShopBeard said in another thread, it’s a really good point regarding many people these days. (I know I fucked up the quoting mechanism)

I think there's an additional factor at play here; something akin to a breakdown in mental health that I suspect is driving a lot of the conspiracy theorists.
I mean, it's certainly a huge shift for us all to deal with, and understandably, some are handling it better than others.
I think, when so much that we've come to rely on, and take for granted, is suddenly thrown into a state of flux and uncertainty, some people will start to join dots and create explanations for themselves that just aint so.
Forgiveness is what we need, as hard as it can be when people say things which deny the suffering of thousands/millions.
For are the people who spout this shit clearly not suffering themselves?
That's how it seems to me.

Oh yeah, JSB and I discussed this topic. You better believe there's a lot of underlying mental illness that's coming to light now. Before, people were able to push it down with work and obligations. Now that those are gone, there's nothing occupying your mind and you're forced to deal with your own brain. You'll make connections that aren't there just to cope with your life being upended because it's hard for folks to admit their own shortcomings and work on them.
It's going to get weird, my friend.

Well they are being told that hospitals are unable to acquire the necessary supplies to adequately protect people from transmission, so they roll the dice.

Yeah, well, the media should do a better job of helping people understand that they can still go to their emergency rooms for their emergencies. You're more likely to catch COVID19 at the grocery store unless you are physically inside of a COVID19 unit without adequate PPE. I have yet to catch it and I spend 40 hours a week in an emergency room.

I had a patient yesterday who was diagnosed with Covid-19. She had lost her mother to the virus and her son was upstairs on a ventilator. Her prognosis was not good as she had all the worst comorbidities. (Obesity, renal failure, and a horrible looking chest x-ray) This virus is still overloading hospitals and killing 3 generations of a family at a time. Meanwhile you have a bunch of dumbass rednecks pushing to reopen everything. I'm a Libertarian, I believe in personal freedom and gun rights. I think the government has grown too large and encroached on our freedom. However, now is not the time. If you don't care about the loss of human life just say it. Don't cry about your freedom because now you're bored. You weren't doing anything about it before, why now? Practically I know we need to (strategically and carefully) start reopening things. Please let people smarter than you decide how to do this. /rant

How's that "hands off" government working for you in terms of getting testing, supplies, and PPE?

While that problem is worse in the USA, there are other things here that are better as a result of a more laissez faire approach to medical treatment. Such as the existence of drug therapies that actually work.
This crisis is giving us a lot to sort though.

The US does not have a hands off government whatsoever. Most industries are highly regulated and the governments act on the will of those in power with supreme authority.
