Just got back from Sprouts (a grocery store that specializes in produce and organic produce). I finally got some leeks! Well, one leek, but it's huge. It was also the only one they had out.
Other than buying their last leek, they were pretty well stocked. I even got 3lbs of 85% lean ground beef. They also had "rainbow" carrots, a mixed bag of purple red, white and orange carrots. Gonna juice those along with some apples and kale I also got.
They even had organic dandelion greens, but I didn't get any of those. I have plenty.
So where we at on the Covid-19 diet?
I know Leeks, because of lectins, and anything with Quercetin (capers and radish greens are highest), then there was something about beans and potatoes, or something...
Then Vitamins C & D, and Zinc.
I've decided that for ease and practicality, instead of making a plague doctor suit I'm just going to be Sub-Zero from Mortal Combat all year. I already have a plentiful supply of blue surgical masks, black pants and black t-shirts. I just need a black balaclava, some gauntlets, and blue sash and I'm all set.

VERY interesting new from the Netherlands. The blood of 10,000 blood donors was screened for COVID antibodies. 3% had the antibodies. If you extrapolate that to the national population that would mean that about half a million out of 17.3 million had the disease. If thats true, than the case fatality rate may be around 0.6%. That would be EXTREMELY GOOD NEWS because that could mean that the global death rate from this might be as low as 30-40 million when all is said and done. Still a death rate comparable to a world war and on par with the Spanish flu, but not as extreme as its tenfold.

If the study done in Santa Clara County holds any weight, and there are 10x more infections than counted, and millions infected, it's still only like 4-6% of the US that could potentially be infected at this point. Unless and until a viable vaccine is out on the market, the only way out is through, and at this rate we have a long long way to go.
But it does make me hopeful that the mortality rate is indeed quite a bit lower than we think.
At this point though, between the lack of testing, the lack of post-mortem testing, the doubts about the accuracy of the antibody tests, and the legions of people who are dying at home that are not being counted..it's just really hard for me to wrap my brain around what's really going on and how deadly this thing really is. I just don't think we'll have a good grasp on it for a long time.
As far as the COVID19 diet, I eat 2-3 oranges every day, leafy greens with every meal in addition to whatever veggies get cooked. Trying to follow a basic mediterranean diet. I'm pale as fuck and have given up tanning for good, as my family is prone to skin cancer(and it causes wrinkles), so I wear sun screen every damn day of the year in a not so sunny environment, so I'm supplementing with 5000 iu vitamin D(as well as fish oil, magnesium, turmeric, and melatonin). I just got my veggie garden started indoors. A bit later than I wanted, but ah well. It was still snowing where I am right now as of yesterday.
I also got myself set up for telehealth, got a pulse ox and blood pressure cuff. Overall, just paying more attention to my health, exercising every day with varying intensity - though I'm getting less steps in than I was before lockdown, still. I think this is actually one of the plus sides of this, even if it's mostly driven by anxiety. I think this has really forced me to stop taking my health forgranted, and I hope everyone else is being more mindful and treating their body's a bit more nicely too.

Vitamins and minerals should be priority, out of which A, C, D, Zinc seems to be most important but don't forget Selenium. The soil in Central Valley (California)is very rich in selenium, almost to toxic levels in some areas. I know there are many factors playing a role here, but interestingly enough the cases/deaths in the CV are very low.
Also, KALE has become one of the most toxic vegetable in recent years, unless you buy organic, or you grow it at home. https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php

I don’t believe that data. It makes no sense. We know that communities in Italy where the outbreak has infected nearly everyone in town, the mortality rate is between 2-3% (meaning that 2-3% of the entire population dies). The mortality rate in the Bronx is already higher than the CFR for flu.
Here’s the problem with these mass produced antibody tests: they also show positive if you’ve had any of the colds caused by the coronavirus as well as SARS and MERS.

There a lot of reports of beaches opening and filling up with people, protests, and breaking shut down orders. Looks like some people won't be happy until we're dealing with this kinda thing

The CFR for the common cold and covid together is .4
I signed up for an NIH antibody study which has been delayed for weeks because they can’t get a reliable test that discriminates between different coronavirus antibodies

At least one testing site in NM is now doing drive-through testing for asymptomatic folks.

Ugh Kale is the one thing I don't have, actually. I've got spinach, arugula, and romaine lettuce.
But imo spinach > kale, at least in terms of taste.
I've never grown either though so we'll see how it goes.

What a waste of resources when we have healthcare workers who can’t get tested. 🤦♂️

Anecdotal reports from nurses nationwide than doctors are increasingly requesting remdesivir and ditching hydroxychloroquine when they can get it. A lot of peoppe saying the specific patient population for whom covid19 tends to be the most fatal is also the specific population in whom chloroquine is contraindicated. So like it could be useful for blocking the viral entry to cell but that takes days to work whereas the side effect of cardiac dysrhythmia had happens very quickly. Remdeisivir still takes days while to work by interfering with viral replication but it doesnt appear to have any significant toxicity at all
The ironic reason that i trust these reports above all is that a lot of these nurses cant spell remdesivir and dont seem to ever have heard of it before the doctor requested it, but are very emphatic about the fact that it works a lot better than chloroquine
The line to get tested took me 3 hours

Kale is great if you know how to cook it and you get it in season.
You gotta press it down into a hot pan just to get it to wilt, then its done. Do it on top of a bunch of sauteed veggies. I'll eat that all day.

grocery clerks get treated like shit in general. i make it a point to tip them and if somebody looks like they're having a bad day buy them a kombucha or a truffle or something. it goes a long way. trying to spread it around. that's a shitty job even without all the pandemicky shit going on.
haven't been to the store in a while think i might go down today see how it looks
