I talked to a friend of mine today. She told me that last month, her coworker was all like "FAKE NEWS! FAKE VIRUS!" and yesterday she lost her father to COVID. Now she sings a different tune.
I hate to be this person, but reopening and watching the hotspots happen may be the only way to get people to stay inside. People have the tendency to deny the severity of issues until they happen to them. The smart ones who listen to doctors will stay inside and protect themselves. The selfish ones who think they know better will contract the virus and then they'll figure out that hey...this shit is real. You are free to do what you want, but you are not free from the repercussions of your actions.
It's going to be a bloodbath, yes, but if we keep these crazy fuckers inside much longer, it's going to be a bloodbath anyways.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman called the closing of nonessential businesses in Nevada "total insanity" during a city council meeting on Wednesday, and pushed for state officials to speed up the recovery process before it's too late.
"This shutdown has become one of total insanity in my opinion," she said. "For there is no backup of data as to why we are shut down from the start. No plan in place, how to move through the shutdown or how even to come out of it."
"Our entire tourism and convention industry business has been shut down. It makes no sense. It makes no sense," she continued. "From my perspective, we must open our city. We must open Southern Nevada, and we must open the state of Nevada."
Goodman claimed people are capable of abiding by strict sanitary standards and should be allowed to return to work so they can begin rebuilding their lives.
"We cannot keep our heads in the sand, and think it's going to go away. We're adults with brains who can know what to do, to wash our hands, to take all precautions not to spread this disease," she explained.
"The longer we wait to do this, the more impossible it will become to recover and return to the home we all know and love," she added.
Vegas is dead af either way. Everything about it is a fucking Petri dish. You can’t just open up and pretend the problem is over. It’s a permanent hot spot by the nature of what it is. In a few months when the denial is really over and everyone has lost loved ones if Vegas opens even neighboring states wont let people in from Nevada. No country is going to allow tourism to Nevada. It’s a nasty ass monument to capitalism at its worse. It’s ecologically unsustainable having a big city in the desert. It’s dead and good riddance. LOL @ The Raiders btw.
Yeah I agree. Reopening the casinos would be a disastrous move for obvious reasons. I mean how many people put their hands on the zillion different slot machines there on an average pre-pandemic day?
I don't feel sorry at all for those who own and run the casinos -- their whole point in life is to bankrupt degenerates. But I do feel for the workers though (although I guess they can at least get unemployment for a while and look for a new job in the future).

the longer those dumbshits keep getting sick the longer the hospital workers have to deal with wearing super uncomfortable levels of PPE all day just to avoid catching it from them. and even that sometimes fails

Agreed 100%. Humanity needs a massive wake-up call when it comes to viruses and pathogens. The only way is the hard way. Stubborn humans

It's not about wether it happens or not. There already is interstate travel bans, curfews, ankle bracelets in my state if your infected. I'd say that's martial law already or close to it. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best and be prepared.. Not much harm in doing that is there? And all these reporters and people playing gotcha with the president during this whole thing have just made themselves look real stupid. The louder you scream the more praise you get these days and it's pathetic honestly. IMO

Of course, but they know better than you, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx, or any other healthcare professional, right? Some meme on the internet told them to shove vinegar up their ass and cover themselves in lavender and citrus essential oils and they'll be fine because they're smarter than you, right?
As a healthcare professional, I'm sure you spend every day of your job fixing people's poor choices. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people out there who think they know better than you.
Like I told Jokeshopbeard earlier in this thread, a lot of untreated mental illness is going to start coming out. All we can do is protect ourselves. There are still people out there who are denying any of this is real.

Oh, I believe it's real. I was monitoring it since way back in January when we were at 200 cases. I just think that all the virtue signaling nut jobs haven't been helping. Facts and information is what helps not getting butthurt over calling it the China-virus..imo

...and there it is...the whole problem...
Half of the country is like MUH FREEDOMZ! MUH FREEDOMZ! The other half is like YOU'RE A RACIST PIECE OF SHIT FOR EVEN SAYING CHINA IF YOU'RE NOT CHINESE! HOW DARE YOU EAT A WONTON!
Then there's us in the middle like, "You both are idiots."
We let politics divide us as a country and now we pay the price. It's not about Trump supporters...there's plenty of SJW's out there flouting the distance rules too. The Trumpers trust the president while the SJW's trust their yoga/essential oils/holistic/vegan websites. Both sides are extremists and that extremism will destroy us because extremists don't listen to reason....just whatever information that confirms their bias.

Sorry if I'm a little on the angry side tonight, y'all. I just watched this video of the "Cause Gridlock" protest in Michigan and I just wanted to punch this lady in the face who said on the news, "I need to get my hair done! Reopen the state!"

Me too.
Between the cabin fever and these idiot I'm cranky as hell. People are going to die because of them. I don't feel a shred of sympathy for the people who blocked hospitals who are going to get sick in a week or two either. Hard lesson to learn.

Hope. I'm really banking on anti-viral treatments.
I'm pretty sure my dad has a latent tuberculosis infection, and it's pretty much the only thing I'm clinging to during this time. That and the fact that my parent's are pretty isolated, seem to be happy to put in place SOP's for recieving packages and groceries, and luckily, have the means and ability to stay isolated.

Yep. Both political bases even have television "news" networks to tell them they're right. And slant and twist every little thing their way so they can say "See!!! Us good, them bad!!"
Boy does each side slurp it up too. You can feed them anything. Truth or not. So long as it fits their little bubble and agenda. Also they'll weaponize anything they can for the sake of their politics. Absolutely anything. Even a global pandemic that has killed scores of people.

Why people in our position (non-mansion dwellers who have regular jobs) still defend the rich is beyond me.
If this doesn't outrage the living fucking shit out of you, you're not paying attention.
But there's an unlimited amount of money! What wrong with everyone eating all the icecream when there's a bottomless bucket of icecream??

Ha, you remembered that!

I don’t think that’s right. My friend says their jobs are guaranteed until the fall under the bailout law.
