Lo siento, Pedro.  Your children don't need to eat.  There are old, white people that need protecting.

The elderly must sacrifice alongside the working class so they must give up their source of income.

I also believe the elderly should not be allowed to go to drive throughs, walk in grocery stores, take Lyft rides etc. This should be provided for them but the more they get sick and die the more this half assed lockdown continues and people suffer hunger.

A lockdown should be JUST THAT. 2 or 3 weeks no drive throughs no nothing limited pick ups at stores. With things half stopped like this it will drag on until August.

Yes, finally someone gets it.  Provide for and protect those at risk, without indiscriminately destroying the livelihood of the masses.

Unless something changes, August will likely bring lows we can't yet fathom.  That is likely when the infrastructure systems will begin to collapse from burden we are placing on them.  If your local government hasn't banned gardening now is the time to plant some seeds.

I don't know if you've noticed but this virus apparently doesn't discriminate by race/color and is particularly lethal for the elderly of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds worldwide.

Old people at risk -> shut down economy -> loss of job -> Pedro unemployed -> no income -> no money to buy necessities -> no food -> children hungry

what are they teaching in schools these days?

You aren't keeping up with the news then.  Blacks are hit harder by this than other ethnicities, outside variables aside.

But minorities are impacted more heavily by the shutdown.

I just want to put this in terms that do not sound cruel. Lets say I work at Starbucks. No is required to get tested. My boss gets it as a silent carrier and passes it on to me as a silent carrier. Asymptomatic. Then an 80 year old comes through the drive through. I unknowingly give him coronavirus and he dies.

The half-lockdown continues and I am reduced to 1 day a week work. There are a lot of things wrong with this picture. But what exactly did I do wrong? Why can't the government get their regulations straight?

Just imagine the burden of having a non-functioning health care system, essential businesses shutting down from sick workers, the riots when people start taking advantage of the lack of emergency services. People are careless. If simply asking them not to cough in public and warning old people not to leave their homes was enough we wouldn't be where we are today.

You did nothing wrong.  Why on earth is an 80 year old out and about when they should be in self isolation?

What's to imagine?  Healthcare in America has been dysfunctional for quite a while.  Riots are nothing new.

Old people refusing to do what is being demanded of everyone else?

The scary part is that this just shows if something that was actually concerning and catastrophic  were to actually happen, that humanity has no resiliency whatsoever.

Imagine if nothing had been done...and everyone was going about their day to day like before the pandemic ....

We would be royally fucked by the overwhelming number of infected people, so much so that our society could collapse, so stop complaining and do something about it instead.  There has got to be alternatives to just complaining about the government and your situation.(if the current emergency protocols in the country are  unfortuitous for you).

I really feel for people with families and children who depend on the gov or are in debt or living paycheck to pack check in this time - maybe we can create a thread and discuss viable options for dealing with financial troubles and other things that are troubling during the pandemic.

What’s in places now- with the declared national emergency measures from state to state and the feds is better than nothing, much better.

That is what I am saying. I simply have my job. Go to work. Make the smallest amount of money. Do what you are told. The government did not require all employees to be tested. The government did not require people over the age of 55 or whatever to self isolate. As a matter of damn fact why was the Statbucks open to begin with? Is getting coffee from the drive through an essential service?

So because all these regulations were not put in place properly I know will be reduced to an amount of hours and money no person can live on all the way to the end of June. If they had taken something seriously for just a few weeks at some point I would not be punished. The old folks homes let people in. The government waited a month to shut down airports. When the quarantine did go into effect it allowed non essential businesses to stay open. Employees did not need to be tested. People were not made to show IDs at drive throughs and those at highest risk were not turned away.

With such a half ass system why have this quarantine at all? This "reduced contact" thing is like babysitting.

But w/e what can you do? I am just saying the way things are with some type of half quarantine system why not just admit they do not care, open it back up completely and let everyone take a chance?
