This is one of those cases where we all hope I'm wrong, myself most of all but:

First, Greta Thunberg came asking to reduce our pollution levels. We ridiculed her. Soon, Wuhan Virus will limit our ability to pollute on the level we used to, and pull us together as a species to see things through.
Mother Nature isn't playing.

GOD: *flies planes into the WTC* "You know, I don't like your stewardship of the world guys"
THE PEOPLE: *Elect Trump*
GOD: "See what I'm saying? Your leaders are corrupt, vain and incompetent."
THE PEOPLE: "Four more years!"
GOD: "Very well.." *engineers coronavirus pandemic*

We all knew that with rising overpopulation and interspecies unhygienic practices, a pandemic was in the post, That's just the natural course of evolution. Unsurprisingly, it started in one of the greatest concentrations of people, with a cuisine that involves consuming very many species, on an unhygienic wet market, at peak crowdedness, Chinese New Year. Pure logic. Most natural time and space for a mutationnand outbreak like this to occur. The place of maximum exposure and viral opportunity.

Was that post an exercise in trying to make as many fundamental logical flaws in as few words as possible?

Hey guys. Found this link through Google, seems to have the relevant info all up to date and sourced but if it's shit someone can tell me. Just figured I'd put this here, I wasn't sure where to look before

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

It's fine. It's all provided by China though, like everything else. It's where I've been pulling my numbers from, for a little update I send out every day to my team at work.

One thing that's interesting: until today, the number and percentage of people in critical condition, which was at 14% yesterday iirc, was displayed under total cases. Now it says severe condition, and the percentage which has jumped to 17%, is missing.

The more reasonable fear here is the potential for disruption of global commerce and travel, resulting in a global recession.

The silver lining being a massive reduction in co2.
Wonder what the graphs will reveal aftert this is over.

I recall hearing that there was a measurable reduction in air pollution across Europe during the flight ban during the volcanic eruption in Iceland:
Found it:
"The volcano released approximately 150,000 tonnes of CO2 each day, but the massive reduction of air travel occurring over European skies caused by the ash cloud, saved an estimated 1.3 to 2.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere by 19 April 2010".

Swings and roundabouts, but the earth, and all that survive, might breath easier if this becomes pandemic.

:takingnotes: good info. Nature way of taking its toll.

Don't sell yourself short. Cherrypicking random events, assuming causality where there is no logical reason for it and assuming divine intervention as a mechanism - that's quite an achievement in a fairly concise post.

Don't consider yourself too intellectually superior koraks.

Causality is not assumed. Its merely stated that the outbreak occurred at a time and place where it is most likely to occur: at a place where the intimate contact between species under unsanitary conditions is the greatest.

For a man of your intellect and belittling inclination it may be absurd to assume that interspecies infection might more readily occur at a place where interspecies contact, unsanitary conditions and population density are highest, but it actually makes science sense to assume that things are more likely to occur and times and places where their likeliness of occurance is greatest.

"assuming divine intervention as a mechanism" again shows insuficcient discernment on your side, the willingness to belittle and ridicule going at the expense at discerning an absurdist dialogue section of a post from a more rational one, and then misinterpreting the rational segment that describes the reasonableness of the point of origin of the infection as causality.

A combination of poor reading, poor interpretation and an eagerness to dismiss and deride on your part.

Amanita, we're in a train of consequences where emphasis on competition and neglect of proper care leads both to contamination of foodstuffs, the media, and in positions of power.

Everything that can be fucked with, has been fucked with, and humanity as a whole is drowning in its own excrement, more and more, until we either pull our heads out of our asses and do what needs to be done, together, or we choke for the next aphex species to evolve into something worth spreading among the stars.

We're moving towards either persisting in our ways and unsustainability, or a paradigm shift leading to cooperation and adaption.

I agree with that.  Not to be pessimistic but I think as we act now it’s going to have to be force of some sort for any of our ways to change.  I think if it was some sort of enlightenment that could do it it would have happened already for the most part.

So in essence, for humanity to realize what its doing public health wise with sanitation issues between people and animals, a deadly virus is needed to facilitate that :strokebeard:

And the creation of said conditions invites viruses to mingle between species and mutate to facilitate this exact epidemic emerging that forces change.

We learn best through experience, be they internal or external.

Our nascent society is ragingly inefficient. Over-competititveness and personal greed are directly obstructing progress by creating epic messes everywhere. In messes, new things grow, be they mushrooms or virii, that can help change our mind.

Yes it does(delicious gourments) to great extent. we are in a very close proximity to china, and most of the corporate chicken meat around the shelves are made from china aswell.

Though i think im not yet fully prepared for a full homestead just incase. I also feel that Its really bound to happen not just by sanitation issues but beyond it upto the roots. as asante haved mentioned. persisting in our ways and unsustainability. Its a domino effect in the grand picture of it.
