Apparently in china they're going door to door in Wuhan checking the temperature of every single person and forcing anyone who they think might be infected into stadiums and warehouses with beds and not much else. There are so few medical supplies and so few doctors, etc. that no one is really being treated. Not that you can actually do anything to treat this anyway (you can't), but still.
Downside is, in close quarters like that, other illnesses that people may have can spread like wildfire. Say one person has the regular flu, and another person has a cold, and another person has a stomach bug. Well now everyone has all three. I suspect these rather extreme measures are only going to get more extreme as this wears on...
Every time I cough now, I get slightly paranoid for no reason. Thanks Obama coronachan.

I'd like to point out that doctor was only 34, and probably in good health prior to this. So that pretty much destroys the theory that this only kills people who are old or in bad health.

Yeah, thinking the Japs are fucked. Hey, they tried to kill my late Grandpa so I will use racist jargon.
But in all seriousness, wondering how bad this will turn out to be.

Thus takes it further, We had our first report days ago, a man at his early 40's. despite of showing signs of improvement, it rapidly declined over his final 24 hours.

Necessities are necessary even in the complete absence of an epidemic, so either way you're getting your money's worth of precaution.
I pulled the trigger on a big freezer and a microwave for thawing and am stocking it with healthy foodstuffs. Fish, veggies, meat, I parked 5kg of whey protein concentrate (over 100 liters of milk's worth) in there, processed 9 pumpkins into 18 big jars of rice sauce, the works. The lil microwave makes a fine thawer and in case of sickness can be used instead of cooking properly. In my closets, tray of tuna, tub of oatmeal, LOTS of tomato concentrate (the magic ingredient) and other goodies.
Panic would be huge, but dont underestimate the power of the epidemic itself, also.

A prominent Chinese doctor, who had been punished by police for blowing the whistle on the coronavirus outbreak, has died, the Wuhan Central Hospital reported.
The hospital confirmed Dr. Li Wenliang's death in a post on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter: "Ophthalmologist Li Wenliang of our hospital, who was unfortunately infected during the fight against the pneumonia epidemic of the new coronavirus infection, failed after all efforts, and died at 2:58 on February 7, 2020. We deeply regret and mourn this."
Why was he getting backlash and being punished? Is it not normal for a doctor to identify a virus and say “hey that there is a virus” ?
That makes me believe everyone whose suggested China governments are lying. InB4 LC suggests they killed the doctor..(which they probably did)
Fixed that for ya.

or he was taken out, and never had the virus to begin with...i can't believe more than one person thought the same as the quoted comment. if this was really a global epidemic it wouldn't be blown up by the media. people would just be like, WTF, why is everyone dying and the news isn't covering it. the most powerful tool, fear.

I buy shit from Shenzen which is just north of Hong Kong, south of Wuhan
Last week, the salesman I talk to said they were working close with the government before they resume shipping goods.
And I asked him how the situation was today and this is what he said to me.
“Thank you, my friend. Everything is fine. The epidemic situation is under control., Goods and workers are safe“
Lol I’m still going to wait a little bit before I get a shipment. But

Yeah, almost the entire supply chain for the company I work for starts in China, and quite a bit of it is in that region. We're all on edge waiting to see how this pans out.
The percentage of daily increase in cases as well as the death rate are decreasing daily, (if the stats which are all sourced from China are accurate) which is very good, but I'm still very concerned about the affect this is going to have on the global economy.

That sounds like something someone that knows their phone calls are being listened to would say.
