I hate the selfish me-me-me beaker attitude of most preppers. What they fail to see is that exactly this selfishness is what got the world into this trouble,

Human selfishness made us infringe on the livesw of animals so obscenely that we created new evolutionary circumstances for this virus to evolve.

I like koraks approach, Majority of People should aspire for that degree of discipline & cooperation, we are walking in a narrow road during this time, here in our country yesterday the president have anounce a 9pm urban lockdown and come home early, still some stubborn individuals didn't comply on time of the road barricade, damn they didn't even practice social distancing, the crowd packing close together while shouting they're anger to the soldiers. Until the president came to talk to them, said calmly: this is not a drill your endangering your love ones and others.

We have to learn to march in lockstep again as a society :hitler:

No seriously, we have so alienated from each other and luxury made us so lax that we have to reconnect with uniting as one for the greater good again.

We're losing the way so this virus sets us straight.

We need to move from great Chaos to Higher Order.

If you are looking for a silver lining to this pitch dark cloud, humanity basically gets thrown into the Darwinian woodchipper where the weaker die off at a greater rate than the stronger, and there is more room for reproductive success.

What it also will do is force humanity to cooperate more with group survival in mind. Not just during the pandemic, also when rebuilding our society. We're going to WE more and ME less, and since the ME paradigm was destroying the world at an unprecendented rate, something hjad to give, and it was Nature itself, evolving a challenging obtacle in Humanity's path, brought forth by our own perversions of nature.

Those are positive things. After the storm, there will be a rebuilding to a better society.

It happens in a completely horrible way though, in one of the worst ways imaginable.

We're going to learn our lessons the HARD way.

Its how they stick though.

Suffering is a great teacher of the unwilling.

We are UNWILLING to stop to be jackasses towards nature (look at Trump) but now Mother Nature will rub our noses through our own shit more and more until we mend our ways asnd become more sensible in the way we interact with our environment, like using antibiotics for patients instead as for animal feed for inhumanly raised animals. Mother Nature is willing to increae the rubbing until our face grinds off if we keep ignoring the increasing signs that - THIS MUST STOP.

Asante said at 31/01/17 (3 years, 1 month ago):

A Recommendation - Expect Service Interruptions

Dear friends: There is quite some turmoil in the world today, the Year of the Red Rooster is upon us, and symbolic of that, in charge of the most crucial chicken coop of the world, the grainery of the world, is the cockiest cock of them all, a rooster so cocky and so red that the skin of his face gets as close to red, well, orange! as a human's can possibly get.

Do not despair, but expect the unexpected. In this particular case I want to recommend all who read this to not panic but to take rational preventive measures in case of societal service interruptions.

In concreta: I call on you to take into your house food, drink, supplies and money to tide you over at least 2 weeks and preferably one month without reliance on stores, municipal water, electricity, gas for your car or functional cash machines to withdraw money from.

What do you need in 2 weeks to sustain yourself and your family? Make rational choices and shop for bargains and shelf life. Rice is a lot cheaper in the big bag, which you can store in a sealable foodgrade bucket, which you can get for free at fast food places. Knackebrot crackers, peanut butter, canned foods, a case of beer, bottled water. A first aid kit. You don't need a LOT you just need a bit of several things you need. Don't forget toilet paper and plastic bags if sanitation doesnt work. No water, no flush. Think.
Get some cash in small bills so you can make change.

It doesnt have to be much. It doesnt have to be for ten years. The world is not coming to an end but there may be brief interruptions of service in society.

If people make a rush to the stores, the stores are empty in a single day. You do NOT want to rush to the stores when everybody does, you want to stay at home on that day with your family and your supply. If the interruption is only short you will not just have enough for your family but enough to help friends and loved ones too. Instead of a victim sheep you can be a good shepherd and help the ones around you in a time of need.

Nobody has supplies. Not the stores, not the gas station, not the pharmacy, nobody has supplies anymore, they all expect there to be daily deliveries of goods. What if they don't come for a few days? Riots. You want to stay indoors or bug out in that case.

Buying in bulk is cheaper. You can save on your grocery bills and have the luxury of a little supermarket in your home in case of unexpected situations or unexpected houseguests.

Expect the unexpected. Be prepared. Do NOT live in fear, live in the COMFORT of KNOWING that YOU PROVIDED FOR YOUR FAMILY.

Don't be a fool, spend wisely, the world will not end but there may be brief interruptions in supplies in society.

The Mormons (LDS Church) are a branch of the Christian faith who believe that the end is near and that we should prepare. Me I think those times have not yet come, but the LDS did make a free preparedness manual that you can download and leaf through to read more about being prepared for calamity. There is little religious talk and much very sensible advice without too much preaching and scaremongering. Download it here, you don't have to read it now, but if the Internet should go down you'll be glad you did save a copy: LDS Preparedness Manual (PDF)

You can find a brief shopping list and some recommendations in my journal entry here: PPREPAREDNESS - Asante's 1 month home survivability recommendation Make sure to also grab a copy of BUSHDOCTOR and USARMY (these are direct downloads of .pdf files here on the Shroomery)

Don't go all prepper nut, its not necessary. You simply buy peace of mind and vital goods for yourself and loved ones. Even in case of an unexpected party, or when everybody has the flu, you'll be glad you don't have to make a store run, and you'll save money on expenses too.

Feel free to share this with friends in any way you see fit, I dont care who gets credit, just do what you think is sensible to do.

Rational choices in uncertain times.

I Love You All

Exactly. I have not cherry picked a damn thing for shit. I have said exactly what you are saying. 80% of people experience mild symptoms. This is not the spanish flu.

Why are you assuming most people who got the Spanish flu didn’t have mild symptoms? The fact is for a large majority of people with the Spanish flu, it was mild. Do you think they did a better job of identifying mild cases of the flu in 1918 than we are doing for covid in 2020?

The scale of deaths we are seeing in Italy are quite analogous to what happened during the Spanish flu.

You’re right covid is not the Spanish flu. It could be worse. If covid happened in 1918 without advanced technology, it would be killing 8-10% of patients. The Spanish flu was also not a novel virus. It was a mutated version of a virus that had been endemic in the population for millennia. A lot of people had some immunity to the Spanish flu. The Spanish flu had no chance of infecting as much of the population as covid does.

https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhyKYa0YJ_5BZ3gQleTk-PJqIejFf4Rh2

There was nothing mild about it. In less then a week thousands of soldiers had drowned on the fluid in their own lungs. Autopsy's involved pushing a corpses chest before cutting it open so the person would heave out tons of fluid so when the lungs were cut open a ton of fluid did not spill out all over the place. Yes mild symptoms at first. Not 80% of patients had nothing but mild symptoms.

Of course the situation was ignored and got worst because a war to fight was a war to fight. The spanish flu did not have a chance to make its way through airports and then 3 people in the entire airport get it and facts were staggeringly exaggerated that "hundreds of thousands of people probably be dead within a month." No it was fairly contained and quite a bit more contagious. Quite a bit as an understatement.

Now how was it quite a bit more contained if thousands of soldiers got it within a week? Because these soldiers were restricted to barracks and front line areas etc. But eventually a few soldiers were put on a train and sent to an area with thousands more soldiers. It was brutal. The dead piled up. Like a 20% survival rate if a patient got immediate hardcore treatment which they did not get being in war time they got screamed at by their commanding officers to go fight. This thing spread like wildfire things like postcards sent home and bullets touched by infected soldiers carried to the other side turned the damn thing pandemic.

Wasn't it told to me yesterday? 17 million estimated dead. A barbaric plague. This virus mutated in the dirty horrific war conditions of the trenches. God damn it makes some other stuff look like kindergarten germs.

Anyway, regardless of how bad this corona virus is or isn't I am no doctor and no expert and cannot predict the future if 100 million will die etc. Based on the facts we have so far which seem to be skewed from media sources beyond recognition it does not seem like 100 million will die.

All I can do is pray for the souls of those departed who have suffered. And pray this shit ends and quick for the sake of the elderly and for the sake of a panic stricken nation that we do not see a major recession and people losing their jobs and people out of work. I myself do not want to re experience 2008 again. I finally dug myself out of that financial hole and well it did not take 12 years total it was still a long burden and hard work to climb out and I would hate to see people go through that again and lose their houses etc.

Not saying this virus isn't mean. A lot of people cannot handle it. Still, for those who can and want to it sucks to have major corporations shut their doors for weeks and possibly months, airports shut down, stock markets crash etc. I truly think a lot of people are uneducated about living conditions in other countries and how truly messed up life really is in places in Europe and Asia. Yes these countries have come a long ways in 50 years and have risen to world GDP status but many people do not understand parts of even well to do countries are still practically stone age despite other parts of the countries being very wealthy. They are not like the US and its not a knock its the truth China is a place where people still eat friggin dogs and bats and bear meat and rat meat and whatever the fuck is crawling around. Europe is hardly post cold war status anymore but its a different world a very crowded world and certain areas have customs and practices that leave much to be desired in the way of sanity.

BUUUUUT if its true and this bug kills 100 million people which is a 1 in a billion chance I still don't want to get people in my face with "I told you so. You have no heart. All the people who died get no sympathy from an ignorant fuck like you. I told you spanish flu." I mean  that is 1 in a billion BUUUUUT just in case that is true which it is not but just in case I don't want to be "that person." All I can do is mourn the losses of those less fortunate, pray for a speedy recovery and pray those young and healthy can still go to work and don't have to resort to rioting just to get a roll of toilet paper.

God be with you and if you don't believe in god well god be with you anyway at the very least metaphorically. Good luck.

There's certainly economic/political motives behind the global panic over this. China and Russia have been trying to find an alternative to the petrodollar for awhile. Russia was fucking with the Saudis and recently lowered its oil prices to encourage sales to countries that may not pay with dollars. We aren't going to easily bully or go to war with Russia like other countries who tried that (Iraq, Libya, etc.)...but all of a sudden...covid19 hits and now there's massive travel restrictions, industry is dialed down many places...and not nearly as much oil is being bought because of it. Interesting...

Not to mention the fake American economy being propped up with for years, and its new illusion of greatness with Cheeto jesus at the helm. The cost to income ratio has been absolutely fucked lately, along with the housing market. With everyone scared of death, they are distracted as global markets crash and jobs are being slashed...things a lot of people had feared would happen soon anyways. All the while people are panic buying and spending tons of money building toilet paper castles and massive amounts of cleaning supplies and food. Record sales in stores many places. Scared people make great consumers...and the profits for the medical industries will be enormous too.

I'm not saying we should carelessly ignore the sicknesses going around, and my heart goes to those who have or will lose a loved one to this....but the level of hysteria surrounding a lot of this seems ridiculous, and the numbers aren't always consistent or likely to be overall accurate. I wouldn't be surprised if millions have already had this virus and recovered, but who really knows. We don't know anything but what we are told. Information is so easy to manipulate nowadays too.

Its going to be ok. We are all in this together, and good things will come of this in the end.

Yes this is what I meant to say. More concise. You brought up something I have been thinking. How many people have had this not reported thought it was just a cold and recovered? Also, its so brand new and testing for many is on a very basic level. Could it look like other mutations of the flu and people without it are testing positive for corona virus?

I have to wonder where this is all going. What will this pandemic be like 3 years from now? Will everything go back to normal, or will it be the end of people living to 70+ years of age? Will the vaccines be enough to provide herd immunity to the point that it dies out, or becomes rare?

So much uncertainty about the future right now.

It will become an endemic virus that mainly infects children because older people will have immunity.  That’s there reason there are so many diseases that seem to affect children more than adults. Like chickenpox. The only hosts they are able to infect are the ones who weren’t alive the last time the virus made its rounds through society.

What's strange about covid, is it doesn't seem to affect children nearly as much as adults...except the up to 20% or so reported adult cases that are asymptomatic or extremely mild I guess. There's cases reported of babies less than a month old recovering very well from it...

From what I have read it is as of now impossible to find a case of a child who has died from this.

There was a 21 year old kid who passed from it, but he had underlying leukemia. Kind of freaky knowing that those young people with undiagnosed disease may be affected gravely by surprise... enough to freak myself out wondering what are the chances I'll fall in that boat.

Fairly past the point of comforting myself with "well I, and my fellow others; ain't old and we don't smoke."

Anon 1: Illinois is home to 11 nuclear power reactors that produce 88 percent of the state's emission-free electricity. These nuclear energy facilities protect air quality and public health. ... It ensures that consumers are not overly reliant on just one or two sources of electricity.

Anon 2: I have no problem with nuclear power it's the best way to cut emissions but if we can't maintain them for what ever reason it can be devastating

pacman: Well five years ago, you were more optimistic.

 i'm still optimistic. the natural farming is the key to exponentially restoring climate stability, but perhaps we are gonna have to do this on our own with what we know
