I've heard there's occult connections...

I've also heard that it was built that way to maximize space. They say you can walk from any point in the pentagon to any other point in seven minutes, so the idea must have been to fit more usable space into a smaller area than with a "conventional" building.

Construction began on September 11, 1941 :smirk:

Even the US government has to bow to the infallible Law of Fives.  Malaclypse the Younger calls the Pentagon "a most pregnant manifestation of straightjacket order resting on a firm foundation of chaos and constantly erupting into dazzling disorder".

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

The five-sided building houses military personnel and civilians working for each of the five branches of the armed services - Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard - and symbolizes their unity in defense and war.

The Coast Guard is not considered to be a branch of the military.

Edit: Founded in the 1790?s as part of the Department of Treasury, the United States Coast Guard is now part of the Department of Transportation, protecting U.S. interests at home and around the world.
