Reishi bag ready to fruit?
    #26442117 - 01/19/20 06:30 PM (4 years, 28 days ago)

I had grown reishi several years ago, and getting them to fruit in a tub was never a problem. I made this myc block in a 1 gallon ziplock, and it colonized somewhat slowly over 2 months. I had cut holes in the bag and put it in my chilly basement a month ago, but this didn't trigger any pins. I just placed the bag in a metal bowl in a warmer area of the basement, and ripped the bag open for fae. The scent of this is typically mushroomy and pleasant, water content seems fine, and it's covered loosely with plastic. They never needed a casing before, should I apply casing now, or is it just a matter of waiting?
Thanks!

I've never used cold to get reishi to pin, where did you read that?  It usually likes warmer better.  That's why it fruits in the early summer here.

I always let reishi pin invitro before cutting any holes or exposing to air.  The more air you give it before it pins, the more likely it is to just dry out and not pin.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.

When I grew them a few years ago, they never hesitated to pin. I have a number of colonized blocks (purchased) of other types of mushrooms that require a chill to flush a 2nd time, I thought it might help here. It's warmer now, so I'll make sure it stays humid.
Thanks!
