DIY ID safely

Hey everyone,
Today was my third successful hunt for Panaeolus Cyanescens after my ID came back as a positive. Feeling much more confident in myself to identify them as I have seen hundreds of specimens and have been comparing them to baseline ones.
I have a few questions if someone would please indulge me
1. I only found one specimen in my hunt today that wasn't what I was looking for. It's stipe was a darker shade of brown, it didn't stain when i cut the stipe from the cap and it just didn't feel right you know? I am under the impression there are plenty of species that are poisonous or atleast toxic but how many of them are almost exact look alikes to pan cyans, growing in the same habitat from the same cow? (I only have one cow on the farm)
2. What are you all looking for when you harvest in bulk? There was simply too many today to do an ID request for every one so I had to go off what I knew, I went through the ones I knew for sure because of obvious traits and bruising but some of them I had to make sure by smelling, touching, scanning their gills and eventually cutting the stem to wait for the telltale bruising. I was very cautious, looking for most obvious specimens in the paddock, keeping to what I thought was definitely pan cyan but with so much variety how do you balance caution with self confidence?
3. What are you favourite methods of storage? I have always had such a small supply that went too soon it never really mattered. With what im expecting to be atleast 10-20gm dried cyans this is going to take a hell of a time for me to consume. I have a dehydrator and first thing I do is pop them straight in there, it only seems right as I don't want them to rot while im figuring out what to do with them. My first flush i dehydrated to a crisp, pounded in the mortar and pestle and then put in a jar that I cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and just covered in raw honey, then put them in the fridge. I have heard mixed things about fresh shrooms or dried shrooms in honey, has anyone had any experience with this? I will keep looking through the forum which has been such a wealth of knowledge but am keen to hear about anyones first hand experiences.
Happy Huntin'!

As far as I know, there are no mushroom species growing directly from dung that are toxic. Look alikes of Panaeolus cyanescens would primarily be other species of Panaeolus, such as P. antillarum.

There is one very important rule when you are picking mushrooms: when in doubt, throw it out. Which means you don't collect anything you're not 100% sure of. Pick only one mushroom at a time, inspect it carefully to make sure it is exactly what you are after. If you for some reason are unsure, ditch it. There are no short cuts here.
If you find specimens you are unsure of that you want to inspect further or keep for identification, you must obviously put these in separate containers and avoid mixing or confusing them with your main batch.

Avoid using a mortar or crushing the mushrooms, they will lose potency much faster. Dry them whole and store them in tightly locked zip lock bags or in glass jars together with silica gel. Keep them out of direct sunlight in a cool and dry place. You can also keep them dried in the freezer, obviously no silica gel is needed then. If freezing, I would probably weigh them up in 1-gram batches and put each dose in a small ziplock bag, then you can put all the 1-grammers in a larger bag or container. Thus it is easy to dose whenever you choose to.
I have never tried to store them in honey, but apparently it works well given that honey has a long shelf life.

No worries, my pleasure.
To practice your general identification skills, learn the terminology and specifications, you can read through this general key to major group of mushrooms by Michael Kuo:
https://www.mushroomexpert.com/major_groups.html
Note that it is an American site so not all these mushrooms will be growing in your area, and not all mushrooms growing in your area are represented. But it is good to get a general grip on these things.

Remember, it can appear that mushrooms are growing directly from a substrate when in fact they are growing through a substrate.
