A few finds around live oak and manzanita
    #26441929 - 01/19/20 04:18 PM (4 years, 10 days ago)

We've had a good amount of rain on the central coast this winter, but I haven't seen as many mushrooms as I expected. Luckily today it seems like they're all coming out, despite the fact that I went for a hike where I didn't expect to find any at all.

Some tiny Lactarius. I've never found them so young before.

A few really nice looking Agaricus (xanthodermus?) that I was hoping to eat but bruised yellow and, after crushing the base of the stipe, smelled like burnt rubber.

The boletes are finally out. These guys tend to stick around for a few days then be attacked en masse by a white mold (hypomyces). The boletes bruise blue and the pores seem to redden with age. The monster in the first two pictures had a stipe that was at least 2 inches across.

These guys were growing in sand under manzanitas - not where I'd expect to find any mushrooms at all, let alone larger ones. They were more orange in person. Tricholoma manzanitae?

A few plain white mushrooms growing in oak leaf litter. Clitocybe maybe?

And finally some thick-stiped gray caps. Tricholoma?

1) Lactarius glyciosmus
2) Agaricus subrutilescens
3) Boletus smithii
4) Agree with Tricholoma manzanitae, or at least Tricholoma sp.
5) Better pics of stipe and gill attachment would really help but maybe Ossicaulis lignatilis or maybe Hebeloma sp.
6) Looks a lot like a Russula occidentalis but the gills aren’t quite right. Not really sure about that one.

#1 What color was the latex? If it turned from white to yellow it is Lactarius xanthogalactus.
#3 looks like Suillellus amygdalinus (red pores) and a Xerocomellus sp (cracked cap).
#4 Are those all the same? Looks like maybe Tricholoma and Cortinarius.
#5 Agreed stipe pics would help a lot.
#6 Entoloma sp., did it smell like bleach?
