Hello, I'm a new member & wasn't expecting this to be my first post. I came across this mushroom today while walking my dog. The only psilocybin mushrooms I have ever physically seen before are Cubensis or Gold Tops as they are usually referred to in Australia. I've done a lot of reading but am relatively inexperienced. I've searched Paul Stamets book and google but could not find anything resembling these.
Habitat: Australia NSW - Mid North Coast about 200M from the coast (so sea level) just to the side of a bush trail. They were growing amongst leaf litter, twigs and sparse grass with the underlying soil being slightly black sand. They appeared to be saprophytic rather than lignicolous (however I could be wrong). There are trees and bushes nearby and the area is shaded much of the time.

Gills: Pores rather than gills, yellow when undamaged but turn to dark blue/black when bruised or damaged. Cap/pores feel firm and spongy and quite dense.

Stem: Apprx 40 - 60mm, medium thickness. Reddish brown at the base fading to yellow closer to the cap. Firm and dense and difficult to snap although there is a narrow hollow section in the centre. Bruises easily and almost immediately (< 10secs)

Pics illustrate bruising on stem caused by rubbing with a pencil.
Cap: 35 - 100mm, mostly reddish brown with slight yellow mottling. Dense and heavy. Flesh bruises/blues very quickly when cap broken eventually turning almost black.

Spore print color: Sorry don't have that.
Bruising: It begins as a light squid ink blue and then darkens to almost black.

Pic taken within seconds of breaking the cap

After 30 secs

After a few minutes
Other information: See pics above
I'm not sure if the blueing is the right color to indicate psilocyn, I'll let you guys be the judge of that. Thanks for looking!
Cheers

Thanks for the fast reply. Your ID appears to be spot on now that I've searched other pics online. Well done & thanks again.

Hit the horse and cow pastures, I've seen a few Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens observations from your area.
