I'm up near Byron. I really need to find some fields where I know the farmers are ok with it. I'm far too old now to be running around like a kid.

Hey Guys,
Am I kidding myself checking these local parks with council scattered wood chips hoping to find anything active? All my spots are based in suburban sydney, the recent rain has gotten my hopes up but I fear mushrooms are subject to being in rural fields amongst cow dung. peace

hey guys. Getting lots of rain here on the MNC.

found these fellas growin in a cow patty by my front gate this morning.

Ive picked pans from the same spot before. They always trip me up a bit with the bruising... seem to turn faint blue then straight to blackish colour. The gills are darkish grey blackish, think they are a bit washed out cause of the rain. hopefully the rain stops for a bit and go can for a better look later on

bertblack,

Out of curiosity mate, what temp and for how long do you generally dry out the P.cyanascens for?

What is everyone’s general consensus on this?
I’m setting dehydrator to about 40 degrees celsius and it seems to be taking upwards of 5-6hrs

Hi Xanayew,

I'm just learning myself but I'm sure I can help you out so that you're not wasting too much time hunting in the wrong areas.
If you are looking for active shrooms  the summer varieties are P. Cubensis and P. cyanescens (blue meanies). They are found in either cow or horse dung.

The winter variety is P. subaeruginosa found in wood chips.

You will need to take a drive and look through cow paddocks at this time of year.

Anyone able to ID these please? It was pissing down when they were taken today. They look too brown to be Cyans but it could be that they are soaking wet.

google earth it and head north, on Tuesday might be a good time. :mushroom2:
I just put 60 cubes in the dehydrator (they were far to wet, soggy around the caps but a great way to spend an arvo.

Braved the rain today and got a drenching but came up trumps. Different location and some meaty Panaeolus cyanascens. The rain had destroyed a lot, but under the trees along the bank of the river there were some keepers.

Happy Hunting😊

Panaeolus papilionaceus. The tooth-like veil remnants along the cap margin (visible in the second picture) is a giveaway.
Panaeolus cyanescens doesn't have a veil.

45 celsius for 24 hours, been taking a while to get cracker dry in this humidity. You can most definitely go hotter but to each his own :thumbup:

Awesome haul Shags, after you're completely soaked you give in to the experience and can have a bit of fun haha

Hey guys,
Mine and a mates little find today, I've done a solid year of research just waiting for these rains! Just hoping a few people could let us know if we are as lucky as we think?
Found in a low lying cow pasture along the
hunter river, foggy conditions and poop everywhere.
Cheers:rasta:

Looks good to me mate. I've noticed pins and immature pans bruise a very light blue. If I'm ever unsure, bend the stipe and wait an hour for bruising.

Wow. Looking gorgeous everyone. Lots of Cyans. They’re beautiful! Here’s my second cyan haul today just on the border  there are a lot pinning down left for the next few days to grow.

3 bunched up on the left in 1st pic aren’t actives. Different type of Pans. Prob Paps and/or Ants.

Nice finds & good spotting on those other pans FC. Can be a bit over whelming when you get a good haul and start picking like a madman
