Re: NSW Psilocybin Seasonal Actives 2020 [Re: Mr.Kundalini]

I’m in south Sydney, but have spent years on the northern beaches surfing with mates.

This is my first year hunting shrooms. I’ve found 2 patches of subs in different locations following a similar formula.

If I was to head to the northern beaches for a hunt I’d be doing the following.

Get onto google maps and switch to the satellite view.
Look for a creek that is surrounded by gum or pine trees.
Pick the south facing bank.
Get your hiking boots on. Take a long umbrella to help carefully move ferns to the side so you can check underneath.
Have some herb if you’ve got some.
Enjoy nature.
Every now and again. Stop, have a breather. Take the time to stop and scan the decaying gum leaves. Look under bracken ferns. If you can’t see bracken ferns, go somewhere else. (Remember I’m in my first year, but in Sydney these seem to be a magnet). If you can find bracken ferns under gum trees with a decent undergrowth of grass, your time is spent wisely here as the moisture level will be higher.

Go for a drive over towards the Ku-ring-gai national park. Check out the boat ramp areas.
Have a look around some of the picnic areas along the river. They’ll have grassy areas and maybe ferns.

Good luck.

Hey all, I hope all is going well and you are finding heaps. In the Blue Mountains we had some rain, some snow and some really cold temperatures.

I went on a quick hunt for subs and came across these specimens.

WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY?

I'm really new to this but have a go at the size. Do subs get that big?

The book says sub grow up to 5cm cap diameter and up to 5mm stem circumference. The biggest cap is 7cm, and the thickest stem is 10mm.

I'm taking a print now. Please help.

Stonkers:thumbup: I love the morphology too. 5cm is a good average. They can vary from tiny specimens with 0.5cm caps all the way to 130mm for some giants.

So you reckon they're subs?

Just those two are 38g wet.

What about that wavy bell shaped cap? Only the really big ones are like that. I wonder if the snowfall did something to them.

I've taken a bit of the mycelium to grow with cardboard TEK and try to colonise my own woodchip beds, like some other pioneers before me have done. I'll keep you posted.

I wanna taste them!

Hey Johndoe. They look like subs but you need to make an id request thread, not just use this one.
This thread is a useful thread for people in nsw but is only seen by a small number of members who are mostly in the same time zone.
There is some great members here who can help but if you want a quick id then make proper post,  it will be seen world wide by trusted identifers.

Good luck with them bud.

AyEyDiZed, thank you so much for getting back to me. Apologies for not using the right thread. I’ve just joined today. Could you point me in the direction of making a seperate ID thread?

How do you guys find spots to hunt at? So far been using google maps to sus out spots but it's pretty hard to tell if the spot is legit until you get there, and there are a lot of places that google misses. I feel like there has to be a better way.

That's cool mate. This thread is fine but really its only seen by people from nsw with the odd interstate/overseas member popping up.
Search through the site. Learn to use all the functions. Check out the basics and getting started threads, read the sticky posts. Join in on as many threads as you can. Even non shroom ones.

Bbdog, honestly just get out there looking. You will get better.
I suck at hunting, but most times i have my 3 young kids with me so i really don't get a good look. That's why I've put more effort into cultivation.

Hi Guys,

This is a great thread and needed your help in identifying the following mushrooms I found in Oberon pine forest. They seem to be wavy caps, but I don't think they grow in Australia. Also the mushroom didn't bruise blue as well.

Wait for TI to confirm, but don’t eat they are not P. subaeruginosa

Found a couple of small patches yesterday, heaps of pins around too. Thinking/hoping it was only the first flush.
Missed those beautiful little caramel caps by a couple of days.

Happy Hunting

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck in the southern highlands?

I’ve only had luck in my own backyard, been wondering if anyone has seen any subs between mittagong - Bowral or moss vale?  Been walking around some bush for the last couple a days but I haven’t had any luck.

Also, is it only the beginning of the season for subs for the south or has it been going for a while or are we at the end?

I’ll try the advice of following the creek lines, I’m finding the south side of streets running East west are popping with life but no subs, maybe too high traffic.  Also has anyone seen any subs while hunting for saffron milk caps?  Just wondering if they share a similar environment?  That would help with hunting locations as well.

I've been wondering the same thing HighlandsGuy - actually planning a trip out your way this week so will let you know if I find anything.

Fingers crossed this rain will help!

PS - have you had any frosts in S.Highlands yet? I've heard that can stop them flushing.

Yes and no for frosts.

We had some mild frosts early last week only in shadows.

But, we had a shit ton of tiny hale that looked like snow on Friday.
I’m still seeing pockets of ice 4 days later.  So... not sure.
The subs In my pumpkin patch seem to be doing okay,
Slow growing, but they are from chips that an arborist gave me years ago.

We haven’t had any frosts since all this rain started.  We’ve had
80ml in the last 7 days so I’m hoping this will Stop the frost and help.

Might go out to my usual saffron milkcap spot if it’s not raining and see.
My spot is more wooded and grassy rather than covered in pine needles.
Looks like that’s good habitat for the guys in the ACT posting on here.

Let me know how you go, I’ve been looking over the gib and spots around Alexandria reserve
But haven’t had any luck so far.
