Rusulla xerampalina because it is associated with conifers. I thought that originally but then went to mushroom expert and double checked. The image was in my mind of that but I thought there may be a look a like. When I went to the website I doubted and then saw your great ID request...

Russula cyanoxantha is now my best guess, no fish smell, I found the mushroom in an acidic enriched pile of needles. Spore print is white as well.

Perhaps buying this will increase the aroma:

And this is the reason why "were" still in the stone age...intellectually. Only if more of the world would eat mushrooms, maybe their brains would evolve too??

That mushroom is definitely not an R. xerampalina...the final conclusion is Russula Mustelina.

Happy mushrooming!

I do not know much of R.Viscida, but: the acidic soil, the cream spore print, the bulkish potato buried like statue, the nutty taste, and the color mixed brown on every one I have ever found. I do not see how this fungi can not be any other then thee Russula Mustelina.

I'm not familiar with either species mentioned, I've had to perform microscopy on the Russula species that I've found in order to determine species level.
