Best way to clean these shoes?
    #26439724 - 01/18/20 06:48 AM (4 years, 11 days ago)

They're made of a very soft fabric and get dirty just by looking at them the wrong way. A friend suggested white toothpaste and an old toothbrush, which seems to work ok but it seems like it masks it, not cleans it.  Is there a better solution?

I don’t think there is anyway better than toothpaste and a toothbrush.  I’m pretty sure that’s how sneaker heads keep their Jordan’s crispy.  I seen a girl take yellowed nikes and get em so clean that platos closet bought them for 10 bux (used clothing store that buys name brand pre owned clothes)

I'd toss them in the washer, put the washer on gentle and hot water, add bleach, and let it do its thing.

Use steam clean if your washer has it.

When it comes to drying, throw in the shoes along with a bunch of dry towels and run it on low for about 30 min.

Maybe a bucket of hot water and soap then use the toothbrush

But like, how much toothpaste?  I have an old sonicare brush head I use, it's like a little power washer and it stays bright for like a day then fades.  I'll hafta YouTube the technique because apparently I'm not getting it.

Yeah they work great for the soles and bottom edge of the shoe but the soft fabric portion is a different story.  It'd be like trying to clean a spot off of a tshirt with a magic eraser.

I still think he should start with a hot gentle cycle. You could even add vinegar.

Use this as your base cleaning.

I do have the handwash option, I'll give that a shot.

Don't use bleach, the white may fade to a dirty tan.

Not quite...

But, try all the options and if nothing works, grab a new pair of shoes.

If it were me personally, I'd either deal with dirty shoes or just toss them in the washer.

I'd suggest a large bowl with warm soapy water (or maybe a tiny amount of laundry detergent or something). I don't recommend bleach because it'll ruin the softness of the fabric over time. It seems like a lot of work for some shoes though, but maybe I'm just lazy.

A lot of plastics do not handle chlorine well

I've used bleach before.. it wasn't much though. Maybe a 1/4 cup.
