Re-potting a San Pedro?
    #26438460 - 01/17/20 12:09 PM (4 years, 12 days ago)

Hello,

I am a mushroom cultivator who doesn't spend much time on this forum but I've got a San Pedro sitting around I have done nothing with.  A friend gave it to me in a pot about a year ago.  Since then, I've let it sit outside all year in Oregon.  It seems healthy and has grown a couple more stalks.  Could anyone lead me in the right direction on how / when / if I can repot it, Or maybe grow from a clipping?  Any leads on information about it's preparation / use would be useful as well.

I appreciate any help that comes my way

Is it pretty tight in the pot? If so they repotting to a slightly bigger pot may help. For instance if it's in a 8" pot switch it to a 12". They don't need huge pots until they are quite large.
Taking cuttings is pretty simple. Using a sterile blade cut off a decent sized cutting say 6" you can do smaller they just take longer to root generally. Then place the cutting inside for 2-4 weeks until completely calloused place it in completely dry soil mix until it forms decent sized root. Time will depend on what temperatures it's experiencing and the amount of sunlight. After roots form you can begin to water. Just remember there's no reason to rush to water your unrooted cutting. They are happy with dry conditions watering too early will just place it at risk of rotting. I've left cutting out of soil for 6+ months with no problem. They just start to form roots on their own.

Awesome info. Thank you.  I think I may wait till summer and plant a few trimmings then.
