i found some mushrooms growing on horse manure. I was just wondering if some one could help me out in identifying these. i would very appreciative.
gills: grayish in color attached to the stem twards the top of the cap
measurements: 11 1/2 cm length from bottom of stem to top of the cap.
the cap its self is 1 1 /2 cm.
stem color: purpleish brownish
cap: tan conic that fades toward the base of the cap. also there appeared to be a 'skirt' at the bottom of the cap.
spore print color: black
bruise color: purplish
i hope this is enough information to get a general idea of what it may be. thanks

I'm unaware of any mushrooms that bruise purple, sounds like you read up on the psilocybes a little and are seeing things that aren't really there .  a location would be helpful too...

in any case, a black spore print suggests it's a member of one of the following genuses: Panaeolus, Coprinus or Psathyrella. Psathyrellas generally grow in wood debris, so I'd take a look at the members of Panaeolus and Coprinus, both are common in horse/cow dung...

well as far as the bruising goes the stem started out a brownish color with a little purple tint to it and when touched it became a deeper purple color. and they were found in a horse pasture in northern ga

PSILOCYBINE CONTAINING MUSHROOMS TURN A BLUISH AZURE OR SKY BLUE TO BLUE GREEN COLOR. THEY ARE NEVER BRUISING WITH A PURPLE COLOR.

Sorry about that.

I may have been wrong. but i think they are panaeolus papilionaceus.
they look allot like them and there descriptions and habitat are very similar. does this sound like a probable match?

Again I bring up the point that Paul Stamets id of panaeolus papilionaceus is incorrect. The mushroom is closer to aPanaeolus subbalteatus, based on a description for thbe early 1900s and also from Japanese journals which listed it as the cause of accidental intoxications in Japan and In China.

The line drawings in those images suggest Copelandia or panaeolus subbalteatus as P. papilionaceus. One generic description also mentioned the flattening of the cap with age in Panaeous papilionaceus. What is interesting is that Panaweolus subbalteatus caps turn flat and P.sphinctriunus do not. Nor do P. campanulatus. The subbalteatus does and it is tat description of Panaeolus papilionaceus that I base my observations on.

This is simialar to the thirty year old problem with the P. stictipes which Singer and Smith identified as being like P. baeocystis when in fgact it is the same mushroom as a liberty cap variation. .

Paul Stamets corrected that in his PMOTW.
yet many people here keep saying they find P. strictipes and P. baeocystis in lawns together when they are iding P. baeocystis.
