Cubes & Blue meanies 1

Most I’ve found in a while. I just ate some pins and blue meanies. There is one that grew under the cap of another and is growing around its stem with a dark purple cap and you can see the remnants of the veil on the cap too. Love those remnants. I ate all of those Panaeolus cyans and here are the remaining Psilocybe cubensis. You can see the purple spore color and the blue bruising. They also have those golden caps the really stand out.

They were one of the first actives I found and learn to identify properly so I see them differently. The way they can drastically differ in size and color is cool to me so to each their own I suppose.

You'd hunt for them if they grew in your area, I'm pretty sure.
I think they're interesting in terms of their success in spreading around the world - both in the wild and as cultivars. Besides, wherever P. cubensis grows, you might also find species of Copelandia.

Yeah, you take that back. Wild cubensis is far from being boring, they are beautiful majestic mushrooms that have the power to open people's minds.

Denigrating a mushroom species and logging off is apparently this forum's version of ringing people's doorbells and run.
In my book there aren't any boring species, though. If mushrooms starts boring me, I'll find myself another hobby.

This is a cool picture, would be really cool if another cyanescens was on the bottom like that one on top, would look like a big mouth eating shrooms.

Thank you those shrooms stood out to me for the photo. I tried to show the small blue one underneath, but it’s hard to see in the picture

The horses are so curious where I hunt that it can be difficult to get good pictures and if I have coffee with me, forget about it because they want the coffee.
Edit: I have never been chased by cows but I've had them come running looking for food.

This is a bit early for me but it turned out great. It's been in the 50's but we had a warm front right after a little rain so I figured what the hell, cant hurt to look. Boy was I glad I went on this hunt

that was only for transport. They are already dry. I went straight to my dehydrator. I know better than to wait. My dry weight was almost 2 ounces. Great haul

Never use plastic bags for mushrooms, if you have to use them, leave them open because sealing the bag will increase spoilage.
Edit: what's your general location? This past week was excellent in my area along the Northwest Florida panhandle/Alabama line. I was seeing Cubensis and Panaeolus every day that I went, which was literally every day.

You should be looking anytime it rains and temperatures are not lower than 50°f but I have found them with temperatures in the 30's, but this past week has been perfect.

thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I have a special spot with the perfect amount of tree coverage that fruits like crazy upto 98 degrees or so. But nothing there right now. Maybe a different cube variety, idk, but this was nice.

There’s no science to back it up but my kookie anecdotal evidence tells me they are more potent when sun dried, I’d love to hear other takes on that

Interesting.
Id love to experiment with this, if I only lived in the sub-tropics... (shit!).
Sun-drying could be the most gentle method to dry, therefore better at preserving potency?

I use a dehydrator and it has never let me down. If I remember correctly, I believe I read that sun drying is counter-productive as far as potency goes. I could be mistaken though. After all, I wouldn't think it's worse than my dehydrator.

Wow I need to try the dehydrator that sounds great I didn’t expect that to dry to 2 ounces. Learning experience two of those big bags turned to goo in the rain when I left them under a tree for too long. Motivational experience to dehydrate the shrooms

I havent had cubes turn to goo, but I have had them get moldy from being in a bag too long. One time i had some big beautiful shrooms from Texas and I ruined the whole ziplock bag. I was devastated, but it was a valuable learning experience.

Thinking about it some of the bigger shrooms I’ve found got kind of moldy and they are just harder to dry than smaller ones

I don't sun dry, I air dry without any heat and I can tell a big difference between doing it like that and using a dehydrator.

I have also dried them by placing them all on a tray turning on a fan but not blowing directly at them instead pointed slightly up so that the air just passes over them. But this doesnt work for me anymore as I dont live by myself and discretion now is a priority.
