Think I might have screwed up my reusable jar lids
    #26437290 - 01/16/20 06:32 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

I made about 100 reusable plastic grain jars. I used JB weld to adhere the SFDs and a few jars I put SHIPS. Did a round but noticed it was much slower than usual. I think the JB weld soaked into the SFD and than hardened, essentially choking the jars off. Really I just want to hear others opinion before I start over and try to use gasket maker.

I've used tons of JB Weld in non-mycological applications, I wouldn't consider it wicking.  It's possible it may have wicked in a little but if you don't see any discoloration from the red JBW on your white filters it's probably not the JBW

The JB Weld ClearWeld probably is going to wick more than the old school JB Weld.  It’s just normal epoxy resin.

That’s just a guess though, since I haven’t tried it (but epoxy wouldn’t be my first choice to glue what is essentially fabric).

Get your lips over it and blow. If it flows you're good.

Hold it up to your mouth, put one hand directly behind the filter, and blow air through it. If you feel the air on your hand, the jar can breathe. edit: ninja'd! ^^ How big is the hole you punched in the lid?

I did that. Not so much flow. I cracked the lids a little bit. Figured it wouldn't be completely air tight if the lids weren't sealed all the way.
