Crumble colonized substrate to expand?
    #26436972 - 01/16/20 03:09 PM (4 years, 13 days ago)

So I am testing my own homemade "all in one" bags, basically filter patpatcpatpatch bags with 3 layers horsemanure/coir/verm then straw then grain with an injection port towards ththe bottom where the grain is. The concept is obvious, inoculate grain once it colonizes mix all together.

So i made 6, injected with about 1cc of Brazil variety cubensis, let it fully colonize grain and mixed. All 6 fully successfully colonized and are very healthy. I allowed the entire bag to colonize and again crumbled and mixed then let again fully recover just to ensure every spec is fully colonized.

I've been working with methods of growing for people that have contamination issues. So far this is a complete success, everything is absolutely sterile and has fully colonized without any sign of contamination whatsoever.

I am sure I could let these fruit inside the bags no problem, but here is where I am wondering...

The grain to substrate ratio is easily 1:1 should have used larger bags with more substrate. And since straw and horse manure is very nutritious along with the grain. The amount of water in the colonized blocks is perfect, plenty of water without being too much., so since there is such a concentration of nutritious substrate would it be beneficial to again crumble the substrate , remove it from the bag mix 1:1 with coir/verm and put into a tray?

I dont see why this wouldnt work, as we know coir/verm dont contaminate on their own, the nutritious value of coir and verm is debated but spreading out the fully colonized nutritious substrate and mixing with a water holding source would allow for better fruiting and possibly higher yields since it adds more water to allow the mycelium to fully process all available nutrition.

I'm thinking even though they are currently well hydrated, the bags will use all the water available long before all it runs out of food .

I have done this to 1 so far as a tester. I have had trich problems in my small 1bdrm apartment so removing it from the bag makes me nervous even though fully colonized substrate should be impossible to contaminate.

I beleive I possibly have live trich mycelium floating around in my apartment, and have had things that seemed clean all the way up get small single spots of trich form when mixed to bulk.

Anyways just want some thoughts from others whether or not it is worth it to remove from the sterile co editions before pins form or if I should just let them grow invitro
