Rye grain question

Hey guys, I’m starting my mycology journey and I wanted to use rye berries to assist in g2g transfers. I’m calling all of my feed stores near me (about ten in all) and only 1 has heard of rye berries, which they don’t carry. About 2 could get me rye grain but as a cover crop. Is cover crop rye grain the same as rye grain? I didn’t want to jump the gin and purchase this if it wasn’t going to work out. Thanks for the help!

Brilliant your going straight for the grains, cover crop Rye grains might be lesser quality or not fit for the same uses as just 'Rye grains'.
Look for 'Rye berries' or 'Rye grains' depending where you are they can be called differently.
Try any brewing shops if not your best bet will be online

Dont discount other grains that they may have.
Oats, millet, milo, wheat, Wild Bird Sead (WBS)...those all work fine too. Work with whats available.

Hmm it seems the oats are not unhulled, they’re whole oats. Does that matter? Also is there a specific type of wheat I’m looking for? Thanks for the help guys!

Whole oats are what you want

Ask them for feed wheat
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Looked for rye a few years back. Couldn't really find any good sources. Came across an oat Tek and found I can get a 50lb bag of whole oats at tractor supply for $14. Haven't looked back since.

Thanks guys. I saw BODs oak tech and it asked for unhulled oats but the feed store said they only have whole. Since I can use that I’m gonna give it a shot. In regards to the feed rye they only have cover crop. It’s weird because it’s like a rural esque area about 30 minutes from me so I figured all of these would be in abundance. Any suggestion on a tek? Tried hitting the searches but I only saw one from someone who literally just had one post.
