Old Oysters on Oak in Wild (question about fresh fruits)

Hello all, I recently saw several oyster mushrooms growing on a tree on the side of the road near a friends house.
Obviously the fruits are old, I picked a few and sat them on some old decaying logs around the house. Maybe someday they will grow (doubtful, but still fun I guess).
My question is this, when will the old fruits fall off, if ever, and when will be a good time to go back and look for fresh fruits to harvest? Should I try to remove old fruits if I ever find something like this again?
I saw several small fruits popping out under the old ones. The tree is oak, but doesn't appear dead. Is this normal?
Any suggestions for finding oysters in the wild around East Coast?
Thanks everyone!

Like with any life form that fruits, that life form requires nutrition to produce that fruit..thus one shall conclude that removing excess "suckers" from that life form would end in saving more nutrition for more fruit to show up. I'm no mushroom nerd, but in my experience waiting about one year shall do it; to make your harvest worth while that is.
p.s. the tree does not need to be all the way dead to host mushrooms, that tree is either partly dead or sick..w/e term you prefer.

It is my experience, albeit in California, that there are trees and logs that I return to ever year that continue to produce oysters, that is until they return to the earth. Generally if I find a tree or log that is producing, there are other similar trees or logs close by with more. If you get a good rain, check the general area for a fresher flush. Usually our oysters over here are pretty bug riddled by the time they are mature, but this year that hasn't been the case. Found this big guy amongst others 2 days ago.

Awesome info. Thanks. Yeah I assumed that cutting the fruits and leaving the base may help to let the freshies grow. I didn’t mess with it. I’ve only found two trees ever that had oysters, maybe I should explore a bit more.
I looked for other trees around but not closely or long enough to see if there was anything else. It’s been raining all week, after a good rain about how long for oysters to flush? Are the much slower than let’s say a cube species?
If I were to remove old fruits would it take another year for the second flush or would it come in a fruit here and there?

Usually a few weeks between fruitings has been my experience. Then again I have seen a spot fruit once and that's it. It's worth checking after any substantial rainfall and high levels of humidity

Id check the next day after a good rain, ive seen oysters go from pins to bug filled messes over night during really heavy rains.
