I'm looking to go somewhere cool this summer or winter. I've been debating Canada , Iceland and Norway. Main reason was to see the northern lights and experience the nature out there. Also I've been thinking about going to Germany or the Netherlands for the beer and the bitches., do some coke, fuck a prostitute type shit. Ither way, renting a car and driving cross country is a must.
So where would you guys go?

I'm probably gonna do a solo trip round Jamaica or Cuba this February for my birthday. Then I have a big South American road trip planned with friends in September.
TBH, the only other place I really want to go is Japan, but I figure it'll come in due course.
With any luck, I'll catch the Northern Lights before I die too.

I would move to a remote island and bring only my girlfriend with me. Hire a contractor and blueprint my own house. Annual or semi-annual shipments of supplies. The humans are energy vampires and SUCK ALL YOUR VIBES OUT. Start a family with my gf after marrying her on the island. Fish for food, crops, water purifier. THE DREAM!
I would travel to wherever that island is.

Man. Too many places to name.
Places that have caught my eye off the top of my head:
Lisbon (Portugal). I've never seen streets so beautiful by the way.

Marseille (France)

Annapurna mountain (Nepal). It's on my bucket list to see it in person. The least successfully climbed and statistically deadliest 8,000 meter mountain on earth.

I was once upon a time pretty fascinated by Cité Soleil in Haiti. I think the UN once declared it the most dangerous place on earth. I guess it was a morbid fascination but I was really curious how a place roughly 8 square miles big could evolve to have such notorious acclaim.
Anyway I watched the Anthony Bourdain No Reservations episode on Haiti a few weeks back. Great episode.

I'm going to the Netherlands at the end of the month, and Hawaii and Cancun in March.
I go lots of cool places. It almost makes up for all the shitty places I get to go to.
I thought that Cape Verde would be a cool place to visit.

Id like to go to Maui, Yucatan Mexico, Florida and Ibiza and go Skimboarding. Any epic, smooth, fine-sand beach with warm water would be epic. And when in the Yucatan, Florida and Ibiza, I can go to raves and enjoy the dancing beach life.

Iceland. As a avid hiker and camper would like that terrain. Maybe that will be my next vacation. Small number of people there. Get why Bjork is Bjork to a degree. Everyone speaks English so why not.
LOVE THE BASS! Summer, despite getting lost on the PCT in the states and two months for feet to heal, will do it as well. Getting time to plan. Best in all your vacation plans though most would think them as hell but not a resort type of traveler. I feel alive in the wild. Great philosophy. Why do people travel this far just to sit and watch movies on a beach with cocktails? Watch the airline scene. This is what I look for for. They make it all Hollywoood/Bollywood and it is never perfect but hike for days on end and when one has a lake and beach to oneself where no one is, that is happiness to me. I have video of it but that I will keep to myself. And PCT people know exactly what I am talking about. Doesn't make me feel special, but the tennis shoe hikers will never find it as we call them. Why I will never do the A.T. HOLLYWOOD! FAKE!

I'm also taking into consideration places where the american dollar goes further and cheap to travel to. Ideally I wanna spend no more than 5 or 600$ on a round trip. For some reason, Icelandic air was a top choice seeing how there's no baggage fees. I was kinda considering Poland, Germany area, but maybe something for the summer and something for the winter. I'll definitely end up in Canada sometime. I wanted to see some polar bears, but I dont wanna pay for a tour

Anyone have experience with Budget rental dropping off in another city or country? I'm considering renting in seattle and dropping off in Alaska. Likewise, I'd like to start in one Euro country and drop off in another a few weeks later. Do they allow that?

Ya usually it's a 200 dollar charge to drop in a different place than you picked it up. They might fuck you because it's Alaska. Not sure about Europe, but I would imagine it would be similar.
I've had a truck rented from one of the major rental companies for about the last 3 years.

That would cost you a fortune. Car rentals get very expensive if you pickup and drop off in different places. Long trips are also not cheap since they usually give you a certain daily maximum of miles before they start charging extra per mile.
If you’re traveling long distances and/or for a long period of time you’re better off buying a used car

I think it cost me about $1200 to drive a good size moving van from Florida to California.
Just off the top of my head I would want to see SE Asia, Patagonia, Utah, Macchu Picchu, and maybe like some old Indonesian/Jakarta temples and travel island to island in that area.

I'd go back to Hawaii. It's the best place I've ever been. It's like a real paradise. I just drove around the island and stopped at every beach I saw and swam in the ocean. I don't like leaving the US very much. I think Mexico city ruined it for me. I just feel out of my element and that locals probably don't like me and could easily take advantage of me. I think I'd feel alright in parts of Europe or Japan. I used to work with a bunch of Japanese people and I feel like I understand their culture enough to know they're just extremely respectful people. I wouldn't feel unsafe in Japan.
I'd also like to go to Alaska or back to Colorado to go skiing.

Koods, I just did a 2000 miles road trip around Alaska with budget. Its unlimited miles and was only 252$ for a week with insurance and taxes. I'm willing to pay a bit more if I have to. I wouldn't be able to make it hitch hiking

In Alaska? I went to Anchorage and road the train to Fairbanks. I rented the car in Fairbanks and drove to Valdez, then Valdez to Anchorage, then Anchorage thru Denali back to Fairbanks, then I went north of Fairbanks to prudhoe bay and back before I came back back to Seattle. Took like 5 days. Now I'm on my way back to Alaska Dutch harbor via the boat. I'll be back in April

Greece, italy, spain, the netherlands, the czech republic, some of the other eastern european countries, japan, south korea, china, russia, england, scotland, ireland, france, hell there's a lot of awesome places to visit. Australia, new zealand, I could go on. There's just too many cool places to visit and too little time and money to see them all.
Beyond that, what I'd really love to do is to spend some serious time in some of them rather than just stopping by for a few days. I'm a little jealous of people who live in the EU because it would make regularly visiting a ton of countries much easier.

Iceland. You want a commune that is together as a nation in progressive ways. I highly recommend it as well as hiking, worth it. And also not as expensive as one might think. From the tourist borough. Lol. Like they need that.

There are too many places I wanna go yall. I have a feeling I will be traveling places every summer and winter for the next few years. I'm developing a cavity, so I think once I'm done in Alaska, i must go to Texas to get this fixed. Therefore, I'm planning to head west towards California. I want to hit key points in Las Vegas, Sedona , Roswell, death valley , San Francisco?, possibly del Rio, corpus christ and south padre. I realize that not in chronical order.. Once I hit the west coast, I will travel north a bit and hit key points on the way back ; Yellowstone park in Utah, skin Walker ranch in Utah, towards Denver Colorado and head south back to Texas.
My summer break could be anywhere from 4-6 weeks, however its uncertain and plans could change. I could go anywhere or change directions at anytime
My main idea for death valley and Utah is that I wanna go somewhere to see the milky way..
For real yall, I'm excited about traveling and seeing what the world looks like!

LOL, I never heard it called that. However after being on the open road for a while and meeting fellow travellers you'll often hear them say 'they caught the bug'.
Only time and money limits how far and wide I would go in my time here. I've travelled a lot, and I was with friends in their 60/70's a few nights back and they've travelled a LOT, and they had this scratch off where you've been type atlas on the wall.
Put it into good perceptive. Even in a lifetime spent going as far and wide as possible, you're only ever going to see but a fraction of what is.
A major bonus is also that it pulls one out of thinking one knows all about the world - which, via the power of the media - I think a LOT of us seem to think they do.

Try not to get kidnapped. But coke is really cheap when you are there from a post on the shroomery. Made me laugh. I HAVE THE PUREST COKE FOR NEXT TO NOTHING BUT DO NOT COME, basically since he was a local from there.
Not a chance in hell I would go there but to each their own. I just don't want family involved. Same with Mexico and it has gotten pretty bad from when I went to Ensenada.
The joke about leaving a mile outside your resort. Kind of based in reality nowadays. But whatever to each their own. Roll the dice. One feels alive and out of slumber. I pass.

Ireland--same as above.
Japan--I am fascinated with that culture, and really want to see a live sumo match.
Germany--I want to see that architecture in person, plus see that slapping lederhosen dance performed by large bear men!
France--because it's France!
Italy--same as France!
Iceland--I'm interested in the place Bjork is from, plus it has an air of mystery to me, I must go!
Switzerland--I must go!

The whole fairies and mystical creatures etc...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulduf%C3%B3lk
Huldufólk[a] or hidden people are elves in Icelandic and Faroese folklore.[1][2] They are supernatural beings that live in nature. They look and behave similarly to humans, but live in a parallel world.[3] They can make themselves visible at will.[4]
In Faroese folk tales,[5] hidden people are said to be "large in build, their clothes are all grey, and their hair black. Their dwellings are in mounds, and they are also called Elves."[6]
Some Icelandic folk tales caution against throwing stones, as it may hit the hidden people.[7]
In current-day Iceland, the overwhelming majority of the population does not take the idea of hidden people seriously.[8] Árni Björnsson [is], former director of the ethnological department of the National Museum of Iceland, suggests that some of those who claim to believe in hidden people do so since it is sure to pique the interest of the mass media.[9] The Icelandic Road Administration has called the media's reports about building and road projects being altered to prevent damaging the rocks where hidden people live[10][11] a misrepresentation.[12][4]
Plus Bjork. I love me some Bjork!

Iceland is pretty unique geologically I think. It's on the border of two continental plates that are drifting apart. So there are processes going on that typically would happen at the ocean floor along the border of the two plates.

Interesting about the elfs in iceland. I thought you were gonna reference to the alleged UFO base in the water over there. I've mentioned before, my grandpa was an airforce pilot during the cold war in Iceland who was said to pursue UFOs off the coast thinking they have been Russian jets. Something too about creatures living under the glacier. They also seemingly have a decent fishing industry there, or so I think. They got the aroura and 24 hours of daylight shit. Iceland is definitely high on the priority list. Get a round trip for about 500$ from Seattle at the right time

I always wanted to go to Myanmar (Burma) , until I learned about the genocide the government is committing there and apparently the taxes from traveling and paying for things there help fuel it.
But it’s cool as shit. Not the genocide part tho

Whoops, I meant to say secret UFO base.
losfreddy, is the area called Snæfellsjökull?
I dont know. My grandpa passed a few years ago. I can ask my dad or grandma. I just know he was in the air force sometime after wwii and he piloted a plane in Iceland. He was involved in something that was supposed to be too secret, but my dad an uncle implied it delt with UFOs. A Google search showed that there was indeed air force pilots who had UFO encounters in Iceland and I briefly talked to him and told him about my UFO experiences so I believed it to be true. I need to find out thou cause I will be visiting that place when I go

My dad said he was at Langanes air station, "a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station" now a historical landmark . In Use from 1952-1960. Cold war era
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langanes_Air_Station
Edit. my dad said he was stationed there twice, once in the 1960s. Langanes shut down in 1961 and moved to Hofn.

i been snorked all week. Mad fishes.
They got crazy bomb ass halal food too cause they gotta lotta muslims. Been making dinner most nights tho.
Havent been feeling adventurous much. Just smoking weed, grilling, and snorkeling twice a day.
i leave 2mar
What I really like, especially if you can stay a while, is how variable the ocean is here. Most of the time its calm but some days the waves were huge and sounded like cannons breaking the rocks and cliffs. The water seems a little more wild here than the rest of the Caribbean. Im a whore for unforgiving seas. I coulda died out there. I almost did. Seems like great surfing most days.

Either north or south pole.
Viruses don't do well in cold climates.

Some viruses need the heavier cold air to spread efficiently. Besides, the globe is warming. The ice caps are nearly gone, where tf have you been?

Flu epidemics are usually during the colder months because people are mostly inside and closer together for longer periods of time

Try sand boarding. Its a lot of fun and way safer than surfing.

I call it sand boarding too because you need sand to board.

Has anyone ever driven to south America? I was telling my friend how I may drive north thru Canada and he suggested why not go south. Wouldn't that be some shit thou? Start in Houston and cross into Mexico and maybe go as far south as Columbia or Brazil. I would be worried about getting robbed, but that be hell experience if it were possible

I think you can't easily drive all the way from North to South America. There's a certain stretch where there isn't really a proper road connecting.

Yep. The Darien Gap. There was a pretty fascinating, long article where a journalist tried hiking it with a local. He said it was utterly hellish and terrifying.
And even if there was a road through the gap, it would be an incredibly dangerous trip.
But yes if it would be an experience of epic proportions if one was able to make it through unscathed to live and tell about it.

If u like Hawaii, check out Yucatan. Its so beautiful. A lot like Hawaii.
I went to Oahu. It was nice having Honolulu nearby for lots of awesome restaurants. I wanted to surf but the waves were huge and I'm a complete beginner. Those were like competition level waves. I got tossed around by the waves a few times just swimming it was intimidating.
