3D printing cellulose
    #26434302 - 01/15/20 03:42 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Is it doable?

No. It decomposes before reaching the melting temperature.

https://3dprint.com/210276/cellulose-3d-printing-material/

I'd like to design a 3d printer that works with cellulose. The purpose would be to print micro porous structures and then use fungi to convert the cellulose to chitin fibers. The resulting structures would be pyrolized. Converting cellulose to chitin and pyrolizing the chitin structure should drastically increase the length of time the carbon is sequestered from the atmosphere.

maybe mix cellulose fiber into 3d plastic material, and make into printing string.. ?
i wonder if you could colonize then pyrolize paper-mache' forms?
idk but interesting idea.. sounds similar to growing mycelium in a mold and heating to make solid forms..

there is a new material plastic from only cellulose and water called zeoform, but they are secretive about their process.

Pyrolization is exactly where I was going with this.

I bet the technology ia right around the corner. Imagine printing your own plant material! Its going to change the silk flower industry forever.
