Liberty Cap Identification AFRICA Please Help!!!
    #26434200 - 01/15/20 12:03 AM (4 years, 14 days ago)

Hi I have these growing in my lawn in South Africa, literally a couple meters away from my back door, normally after very heavy rain. I checked YouTube and google and here a bit and am 95% sure.

Are they definitely Liberty Caps and is one enough at a time, if you know what I mean? They’re quite small.

Thank you so much, people )

Sorry, not liberty caps. They are a species of Panaeolus.

Welcome to the Shroomery.

Agreed not liberty caps, isn't South Africa too hot for liberty caps?

Possibly. I don’t know much. Last time I took shrooms was a couple decades ago. I know for sure we get fly agarics. I don’t know about these.

Some valleys and areas have different climates, cooler, more rain, misty etc.

I guess it could potentially grow at high altitudes, like it does in India and Chile. But I would assume it is probably rare.

Welcome to the shroomery,  check in areas where horses, cows water buffalo, elephants and similar animals graze. Look for Psilocybe cubensis,  Panaeolus cyanescens.

A recent find in South Africa of a possible woodloving Panaeolus species was recently posted. Here's the link to it.

Of course, they are likely the easiest to come across I guess.

A helpful resource here:
