1/13/2020: FH construction has commenced! Unfortunately my lazy ass left plywood out leaned up on the back porch and things got a little warped, so we’re flattening things back out. Snatched (3)20x25x2 hepa from work, stacking them in. Have a 1/3hp 115v blower from a furnace to power it. I plan on getting a speed controller and will use my anomometer to dial it in. Still have the cabinet to cover the blower to build too.....SAB has been good to me, but I made my arm holes too far apart and it’s killing my shoulders. T1s are also looking good, should know by end of week or sooner if I need to make another transfer or send it to the grains.

That could work with a hood, but definitely not a SAB. The water in these is also between the edges though, so it's more work and contamination risk, definitely not ideal. I'm just going to go back to regular pouring - I'm pretty solid at that (maybe 1-2% contam rate in my SAB) so not a big deal.
May need some of those pp5 plates though when they're back in stock. I've quickly figured out why more people don't use glass, but at the same time I do prefer reusable supplies - I don't have to feel guilty about taking extra transfers when it's just a little extra agar.
I totally get that having the SAB and all. If I get to much more crazy I will be doing regular pours. Just tapped out on my myc budget right now and using what I have in my artillery. I'm only doing 2 transfer per plate due to only having 24 PP5s to work with total.

Pushin' on.

Gonna transfer out from all but one that I'll attempt on grains. (And transfer that one at that point, too.) I have a sneaking suspicion that I accidentally made my last batch of agar way too nutritious - hence the exclusively tomentose growth. I transferred some of my other cultures that perform almost exclusively rhizomorphic to this recent batch of plates only to find them fuzzin' out...

I’m hvac service tech by trade, but I like to burn rods and weld shit/fix old implements that I have cheap or free.....turned a straight blade for a tractor into a nice wide muck blade for mini excavator bucket, that worked out amazingly when we were clearing our property and ran into the rainy season.

Just spliced two photos with opposing light sources.
Mounted plate + mounted camera = seamless splicing.

I don't like to and won't bc I want to take a transfer away from anything that came off the print. I'll prob take my t1 tonight. I'm slow playing my pitris till I see something I like.

Only time i transfer right off is if i am on a rescue mission. Let em go a little longer & make fewer more precise transfers before going to grain

Ok, I hate to nit pick, but it's going to drive me crazy since I was really Jonesing for the whole glass petri, innoc loop, lab coat thang!

What did you figure out about glass petris?
Call me a nerd (wanna be), I even had a journal for my aquarium, but I just love this whole equipment, research aspect.
This grow along, CBK!, has been fantastic at flushing out details, things the pros didn't even realize were important for us laymen.

I don't use glass petris but I totally get where youre coming from. I tried to build a collapsible "clean room" early on before I realized I don't know what I'm doing. Now I have my SAB and mag stirrer\hot plate and such set up in my "lab" which is an isolated room used only for "lab" work. I have a white coat that I use only for this work that stays in the lab. I love using my cell treat petris and the whole set up because, honestly, it means I get to play scientist like a kid again. Just saying, you dont need glass to play scientist...

Lol... I've done brf cakes in the past but once I started with agar I definitely got the "white coat itch"... I agree tho, you dont need glass petris to be a scientist!

Haha, just wait til I pull out my 10ml pipette.
^yeah, I don't know what that means either...
If you haven't tried them, I love the celltreat plastic plates. Biggest issue is disposal but I Just try to find other uses for them when I'm done.

Didn't help that I was doing mimosa hostilis extractions before I start mush cult so already had jars and bottles of liquid and powdered chemical. That's why I got the 10ml pipettes mentioned above. Great for pulling off that top layer. Throw in some beakers and stirrer, and all that goes with mush cult like syringes and SAB and sterility. I was hooked instantly. Once I hit the agar phase (which was pretty early on in cult career) I was full on delusional. Feeling like professor Farnsworth from universe 420.

I know some of you are legitimate mycologists and other biology or scientific fields and I don't want to take away from that or imply that I am on that level. I am not. But I love learning and knowledge and all that goes along with this and I'll continue to play scientist every chance I get.

Randolf I used to run mescaline and lsa extractions and whenever I had a step where you only wanted the top layer of liquid I always wished I had one of those badass glass funnel things you could drain the lower stuff with.
Pipette is def the best way but got too tedious for me so I would just use non corrosives so I could put it in a bag then once it had separated snip a little bit of a bottom corner off to let it leak out.
In other news it looks like my rw has germination, completing the set! Toc is by far the fastest so far.
