Didn’t realize how cheap dehydrators were, going to get one tomorrow! Any advice on what brand to buy?

I use my dehydrator on 160F. You don't have to use the lowest setting. But if it makes you feel better the lowest setting also works... will just take longer.
If you are using the fan + desiccant method you want to dry them as much as possible in front of the fan first. Then transfer to a jar, tupperware, or another "airtight" container with the desiccant. Damprid (calcium chloride) is my favorite desiccant because you can dry it out in the oven and reuse it. Damprid mush be stored in an airtight container because it will suck moisture out of the air.
Your goal is cracker dry. When the mushrooms are cracker dry the stems will snap in half easily(instead of bending) and if you drop them on a table they will sound like toothpicks being dropped.
Mushrooms that are cracker dry will store for a long time. I ate some weilii from 2017 a few months ago with good results. They were dried with a dehydrator and stored in a mason jar. I make little desiccant pack out of a coffee filter taped around some damprid that I will keep with the mushrooms if they are stored in a ziplock.
If you plan on picking many mushrooms it's a good idea to go ahead and invest in a dehydrator. You can usually dry a full load in less than 24 hours.

presto and hamilton beach are good brands. Anything around $40 will do the job.

Wild_willyhunter said: Thank you so much for the drying advice! The fan drying should be no issue, but I don’t have a dehydrater or silica gel. So are there any other opinions? And if not where can I buy silica gel?
A cheap, easy desiccant is epsom salt (magnesium sulfate):
1) Go to your local pharmacy or grocery and buy a shit ton for cheap. 2) Preheat your oven to 420 F and bake off the water for two hours. 3) Put the dried salt into sealed mason jars and let it cool overnight. 4) Add the dried salt to your jars of fan-dried mushrooms.
This makes anhydrous magnesium sulfate, a very strong desiccant. You can also reuse it by repeating the 420 F bake step, but it's so cheap that it's not really necessary.

Working in Alpharetta today on irrigation and found these in a home owners back yard. There were 38 mushrooms in this one cluster jammed up inside this clump fescue. Right below arborvitae cypress trees. I seek these trees out over pines for weilii. I have found literally thousands of them below these trees

Some nice looking ones there.
As for the cypress trees how far away were they? Could it be related to the disturbance caused by planting them? I'm curious for a habitat shot including them. I see many people having those trees in their yards as well.

My backyard patch is located under a wild cedar tree that came up after grading 5yrs ago... got several cypress trees that were planted around the same time, so maybe they will also have some fruits there.

If you look at my avatar you can see the needles. It might be about the moisture that it holds... just a thought

Yes it’s a Variety of things. The lower branches drop needles and pile up, the lower branches also lay along the ground and trap moisture. It’s more than that though. I believe the ph of the soil under these trees is optimal for fruiting weilii. I find them directly under as well as all around them. They aren’t specifically under the canopy all the time. As much as I do favor the anonymity of this site I still wonder how old some of you are. I was a kid in the 90s. I miss those days.
