Im wondering how often people are finding these (edit: weilii) in "open field" type areas that get full constant sun. All of the similar habitats i find to the grass hab shots are usually spots that get absolutely baked

Killer. So I take it a lot of times you personally have to do a little more in depth searching, moving grass and getting low to spot em?
I get quickly discouraged from raking through another hundred yards of grass getting blasted from the sun hahaha

So with the grass, would it be best to look along the tree lines, or just any grass that’s irrigated? Wood hunting has been so hard!

You can find them out in the open but it’s much more moist along a tree line so you will have better luck there.

Just keep in mind that right now it’s going to be harder to find them. Don’t get discouraged for not finding any. And do keep checking the spots that do meet the criteria.

These are the types of woods I am searching, loaded with adolescent sweet gums and pines. A good sloping hill not too long cleared out. I guess the extreme heat is just slowing fruiting. It is sooooo hard to not just throw in the towel and go back to the black market, but that’s never ideal...

Hopefully no one takes this the wrong way, but maybe one of the tropical storms/hurricanes will spread some love our way! This heat if definitely subtropical without the moisture

Nice little guy! Still been hunting daily when I can get away, but the heat and dryness has pretty much put a hold on ANY mushroom growth. I mean I am still finding a few edibles here and there, but man the weather has been brutal. It’s gonna start to cool off soon hopefully. Fingers crossed!
