No no not my first. This is my fourth weilii find in a year of searching. Sorry for confusion. I was trying to give advice to the other new guys to not give up and to be slow. Crouch and scan.
And I'm definitely following your and others advice too. This thread is a treasure trove of knowledge and XP.

Sometimes not looking for them is a tremendous help as well. When I found my first ones I was at a boy scout thing with my kids and damn near kicked a huge cluster thinking they were lacrymaria. I found them well outside of their "normal" range so I never ever thought to look nor expected to see them. Keep at it though!! Look forward to seeing you post some gorgeous ps. Caerulescens soon!!!

Anyone else notice any variation of weilii afte drying? The weilii I found a few years ago where mature specimens and dried completely jet black and very light and papery. The weilii chodes I dried this week retained their color. The stipe is white with tons of blue and the cap is dark brown. They are not COMPLETELY dry but almost there. If I compared the two dried shrooms from the separate times you would not think they are the same species.

It may have to do with the phenotype. I can post a pic later of mine from yesterday and a few weeks ago. I’m fortunate to have an Excalibur professional grade dehydrator. Cracker dry in hours.

Yea I mean I could easily go out and buy one but most of my mushrooms dry in a day by fan in a bathroom with occasional heat. The thicc boys are taking days and days. They also dried hollow which is odd. I left the butts on which probably has something to do with it.

Will do next time. I just expected them to dry fast like normal but I guess they are too thick. Plus they look so dope whole.

How do you distinguish these from non-actives? I am pretty sure I find these, but I discard them. I can easily tell copes from ants, but these... I cannot figure out. I ate a bunch with disappointment after hitting a baseball field filled with look-alikes. No, I had no issues with digestion.

Wont find em in grass...I mean it has happened but its rare hit the field if its growing from the poo itself beat the mushrooms up a bit and look for the bluing slice any in half from stem to cap that you are unsure about if no bluing toss it...And always get a ID even if sure its safe practice
The grass Stropharia around here resembles cubensis but will not stain blue whatsoever its found in grass fields

Heavy rain here last night. Today I found a bouquet. It rained again this afternoon. I found a few more in the same area. A different spot that I've had my eye on is now producing as well. The common theme is both spots are downhill of the main pasture. And both spots are where the animals have had hay. I suspect the manure collects in the old uneaten hay surrounded by the Bermuda grass.
