Do y’all think finding weilii in a older neighborhood “about 20 years old” is alright. Cuz it’s right on the border of being somewhat recently disturbed yet not really. I just hate wasting time searching somewhere that prolly doesn’t have any

Youd have better luck in the ones that recently got developed within the last 10years to as new as 1.5 to 2 years old.
Unless theyve had people in an out redoing water/ underground utilities etc. The past 2 to 8 years would probably be better. 20 years might be pushing it, but possible

It’s crazy how the spot I found them today hasn’t been graded in decades. The home is very old. They where growing next to a horse pasture.

Oh damn alright. I always find myself looking in the woods to try and find some but after some research it seems like new neighborhoods fruit the most. Only problem is I find it so much more awkward walking around in random neighbors hoods scouring people’s lawns

How worth it really are those gyms? I only ask because I found a hella cluster a while back and boiled down about 100 dry g's and got nothing.
I just like to collect them and add them to my gymn jar. I eat a few here and then with some beer.

I’m down right now I’ve lived in ga for a very long time and have yet to see a single one of these guys. Been looking pretty frequently for the past three years now. However today was my first time looking in a new neighborhood but I still came out empty handed. Maybe I should wait til another big rain before looking heavily again

Keep looking brother! I always find them when I am not actively looking. I found mine today on an old property. I have no idea why they popped up where they did but I am happy they did.

I must, too. Either that or the place I found my first ones just isn’t producing anymore. The ones I found were in a relatively public place, though, so I don’t doubt someone else might know the spot. But I haven’t even seen pins the couple of times I’ve been back.

Like everyone else, I’ve been lurking off and on for about a year. Hahah. Here in Ga NE of ATL. I’ve been on the hunt for over a year with no success as of yet, but I have some habitats that I think would be nice for the elusive weillii! I didn’t even realize you could find them in the summer, but y’all have given me a new hope!! Tell me what you think. I have several more spots, but I just want to make sure that I am not wasting time in the wrong habitats. Thanks

I would try areas with 8-14 foot loblolly pines and Sweet Gum tree suckers near it that spot seems to be surrounded with oak

Awesome! Thank you. I literally have that on my property the exact way you described with a drainage pond but no luck as of yet. I will scratch that park off the list and focus more on the clay, small pines, and sweet gums.

Usually they aren't fruiting during the summer, but there's been some cooler days and plenty of rain. My spots that aren't in the shade aren't doing much. If the rain keeps up this could be a bitchin fall tho.

No luck so far today, just some old man of the woods, boletes, and LBM’s but I am determined! Found a couple good spots today. If anything it’s good to be outside. I just wish I could find some specimens so that I could attempt mycogenesis.
