I've definitely seen his. I don't even entertain the thought of finding anything like that. Refuse to set myself up for disappointment. Also, I think he would clear paths through the forest himself.

It’s all about the pine beetles. He literally says the road he finds them on in one post. I know exactly what road he is talking about even though he only uses letters to describe it and what city. I have looked for it but I have not found it... yet.

My husband just cut down two pines on our property that were killed by pine beetles. Maybe I need to go plant some sweet gum and disturb some red dirt 😂.

It wasn't that important. If they were in the yard I would have just asked them if they eat mushrooms? If not can I have them.  Muy bien, fiesta!! Haha mostly mexicans around this area. They probably wouldnt care

It’s always the Hispanics who are the most understanding in my experience. It’s only the older white couple who give me weird looks when I am looking at various mushrooms on the trail at parks.

And I am not 100% white.

Yeah absolutely.  Youre either a picker or a kicker.  Most hispanics are all about harvesting their own foods etc.  Several even love the psychedelics too.

I look in yards but often wonder what I’d say if asked what I was doing.  People would likely think I was just some crazy Karen trying to steal their plants or “live laugh love” sign off their front porch.

I'm pretty straight forward with them and tell them that I like photographing mushrooms,  sometimes I eat what I find when I know that they are safe and I have no doubt about the identification. I asked permission if the mushrooms are not within arms reach of the road side and I've only had problems a couple times with someone trying to claim that they own a county right of way so I have to nicely set them straight but there are jerks that you have to tell to bite your backside to put it nicely.

question for yous guys, has anybody had any good finds in the patches that grow on those raised grassy medians usually like 3-6 ft wide, dividing those 2 lane highways(not freeways)? or are they like guaranteed to not be what im looking for? i guess it would prbly vary depending on location huh? cause i was otw home from cumming/alpharetta-ish today and i spotted a couple of generously fruiting patches of at least 2 different species but we were in the work truck with a co-worker who doesnt partake so we couldnt stop and check ourselves, would it have been worth it for me to drive back and check them out when i got to my car even though it would have added like 30 minutes to my ride home? or should i dfntly be ignoring those? i know i saw a post on here about finding gyms on them but im looking for something a little more... concentrated lol

mushrooms are great at bioaccumulation meaning that they are good at absorbing heavy metals and other environmental toxins so it isn't recommended to harvest mushrooms along roadways.

Yea I wouldn’t recommend either. A lot of heavy metals accumulate along side the road plus they are constantly sprayed with herbicide.

I've seen Alan say heavy metal and toxin accumulation aren't that big of a deal in psilocybes because people tend to eat way less of them compared to edibles. He also said species in the family strophariaceae generally don't accumulate toxins like a lot of the edible species.

Interesting. I trust anything he says but I wonder if he has looking into bioaccumilation himself.

Great discussion here and very interesting topic.  I hadn’t considered this before so I started looking on some other pages. On another site (psychonaut.fr), I was reading a thread where it said that growing mushrooms is a great way to clear out toxins from your growth site but that you should throw away whatever grows. Personally I don’t think I would risk it. But then again, I guess that makes you think about double checking any of the sites where you harvest from.
