Word, I was looking along hillsides that were sorta washed out. I checked everywhere even a few new lawn type habitats close to the pines and sweet gum. Is that grass picture Bermuda or fescue? Or is that as important?

Yessir out in the Gwinn! First time finding a cluster like this. Such a strong scent on them! A lot of the inner caps are straight black on top 😭😭

I always take my knife and scrap those spore off and wipe them around everywhere else in the grasses or wipe off the knife onto some paper towels and bury that in other areas you see lots of water eroding areasa

Good to know!! I forgot my knife at home. I was mainly taking the dog out for a run then she lead me to some magic. Drying them now but am taking to giant spore prints. I can hopefully use those to spread some love.

I do not believe grass species is important. The key is graded within the past 2-8 years. I have found them in all sorts of grass types. They do seem to be more likely to be in bermuda however. I believe this because bermuda creates the perfect microclimate better than most grasses. It is so dense that it holds in moisture well. The density of the grass also allows it to hold in grass clippings better than any other grass. Good nutrition source for the mycelium. It is also the most common grass used for sod for freshly graded landscapes. That is why it is seen commonly with weilii.

Found these two small ones while on lunch today. Been looking at lunch and after work for a week and a half with no luck. Was about to give up and spotted these growing on a patch of thin moss on top of clay. Alan Rockefeller said the stems on these were tough and yes... I paid attention to this as I pulled these up. They are not very big, about the size of a quarter. Didn't want to pull any this small up, but they were in a pretty high traffic area and likely would not last too long.
Mixed up some sawdust with clay and planted the bottoms of the stems. Will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.

Found 3 weilii at a known patch in cherokee co. Something told me to take a detour through the woods. Sorry, I know its an actives thread but holy $%*+!! I tossed the lions mane in with the weilii because i only brought one paper bag. When i go to prep it, its turned blue?! Strange phenomenon! It weighed in at 2.5lbs and was delicious. Happy hunting everyone!

Man northgahunt was finding some juicy ones in the woods... had to go back to some of his posts. Looks like they take longer to fruit in the woods after a rain. Gonna try and venture out to forsyth.

For one, if there are no to very few large standing trees. Normally if its been very recent and havent built on it yet. There should be pile(s) of top soil/trashy woody debris somewhere
If its been within a year or 2 of course various weeds/grasses. Little pine/ tree saplings.
