Nitro inspired me to check a spot close by....
This

Equaled this. Not much but I had pretty much threw in the towel until next rain, so a decent bonus.

Nitro that's a sweet spot you have there!!!

A tip from up north, cover pins with leaves or other debris and water them if you can to ensure healthy growth

Nitroooo, my man! How long since it’s been graded do you think? Or is it purely just the overflow from the creek? I have searched an area near a sewer trail that overflows every time it rains but without luck.

It’s a pretty decent slope with the usual suspects. Lots of pines, baby sweet gums, blackberry bushes, ferns, moss. It’s pretty much under the canopy all the time, so no sun. Only one spot that I found that sun-bakes pins. Overflow creek at the bottom. Still a little damp from the last weeks rain. It’s a very good microclimate for this time of the year. I literally hit this spot up at least 5times before I found just a couple, and decided to go back. Boy I am glad I did! Probably left 50pins and some older fruits. Probably 2-3 yrs since grading, but looks like they might do it again... hopefully they will wait though.

Thanks mane. That’s a good tip! I wish I would have covered the pins more before I left, but I was afraid I wouldn’t see them completely and accidentally step on them. Hopefully they will be alright until I can get out there again sometime next week.

I believe the pins will do fine uncovered. If the moisture (rain/humidity/ground) was going to fade, then they may need to be covered up to retain good conditions.
Here recently, between the rains, I’ve watched closely as pins matured. The only observable difference in their maturation seemed to be that they moved more quickly towards their lighter coloration than they did in wetter conditions. The only real risk in leaving them uncovered, IMO, is that the mature specimens will be easier to spot as they are exposed and more sharply contrasted with surroundings given their lighter complexion.

Last few days have been high 70’s (Fahrenheit) and some 80’s during the day, and in the 60’s at night with some cooler nights mixed in. The rains here now, so hopefully we will get some more beauties popping soon.
This has been a good and wet year, so we should have crazy flushes for the rest of the season as temps keep cooling off.
