Just leave extra coir to sit and dry. Yes you can make cakes with them they become a bit more compact than verm cakes but they do well

Following the SFF shoebox as well with great results! It's pretty set and forget. Less moving parts!
Looking forward to seeing the fruits of your labor!

So far what I love about using coir and mycelium mix it the smell... Smells so sweet... it smells like waking up next to a beautiful woman in the morning, just after the sun has risen and the morning dew is inviting you both to dance in the grass together.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

I know this may sound dumb... But do You literally close and lock the lid of your shoe box till they start pinning? I’m used to SGFC with cakes which is all about FAE.

🍻 cheers Apologies, for I’m gonna hound you with the following questions. 1. Do you just use BRFand coir, no gypsum? 2. I know it’s about KISS, but I have a bag of verm and a box of dried manure pellets, both I bought to use in growing. If I’m all good with my coir and shoeboxes adventure, I want to use them up. Do you think it is possible to combine them in jars or as shoebox substrate?

Cool. I’ll be doing that with a albino cub spore syringe I have in the fridge this evening then. Needs using up. After full colonisation I’ll transfer them to the other two shoe boxes I have.

Actually, I managed to find a post on Shroomery, where it was advised to post the excess in the oven to dry out. I have since stuck it in my dehydrator 👍🏼
I would either
A. Find a way to use the coir/ make more spawn and more tubs
B find a way to cut a chunk of the brick before you hydrate it so you dont have so much excess...
I wouldn't mess with trying to dry it after the fact, that's just me though. Sounds like a pain in the dick and a mess. If your only doing one shoe box at a time I'd definitely up your game if you have the means...
I wouldnt store it veryong while its wet either..
They have loose coir in bags, I wonder if that would be a good alternative for anyone not wanting to use a brick at a time...

Yeah I know, it sounds like I’m a bit of an idiot. I was following a tut which doesn’t use percentages of substrate only volume. I know I could have worked out the math, but I didn’t.
I was thinking, after I get my first flush, would it be worth crumbling the substrate of that shoe box and adding it to more coir, in further boxes. Would the mycelium develop further?

Day three, mycelium seems to be poking its way through the top layer.
 It smells sooooo good

Yeah.. way too early. I’d say just try and forget about it for a couple/few days and check on it then... besides, I’m not too sure what we’re suppose to be looking at in those pics. Looks like a tub that was made a few days ago
