Agar noob question. condensation problem

Hello all So I really messed up. Yesterday was my first agar experience. I got 10g agar 10g lme and 500 distilled water and did the agar mix, sterilized for 20 mins and got everything in my SAB with wet towel + a small metal grill to keep my working surface up a little bit. Here is where i messed up : pouring the agar in my plastic petri dishes at high temperature made all the dished to condensate. I really tried to get that of with 2 metal mugs with hot water and it worked so I inoculated 15 of them with one GT spore syringe. After that everything went in 2 sealed bags in the fridge. Now all of then have condensation and I really don't know that to do. Any thoughts? Can I save any of them ? Btw a really BIG THANK YOU to everyone on this forum, I really hope you realize how awesome you are

What worked to mitigate that result for me was learning to pour thinner than I was orginally comfortable with. You dont need that much. Eating until the right temp also helps. You can flip it upside down but as long as you're not damaging the myc you dont have anything to worry about. (Assuming they're wrapped in parafilm

Well anytime I left plates in the fridge they get some heavy condensation. Nothing you can do IME will prevent that. You can still put a hot mug ontop of them to help get rid of it and them dump any pooling water in your SAB...
So why did you put them in the fridge anyways? Didnt you just inoculate them?

Well here is where i misunderstood all teks. I inoculated and then went straight in the fridge, that is wrong isn't it ? they are wrapped in saran wrap like bodh is doing and also zipped in small sandwich bags

Ya dude they wont grow in the fridge but they wont get ruined either...they're just sitting in there dormant. As soon as you take them out they will begine to germinate and colonize your plate.

Thank you, I am astonished how noob I am . I really tried to make everything by the book (in case shroomery book) and really did not realize that I did not know how to store them after the inoculation, the one i did not inoculate are ok in the fridge? Thank you again!! Also should i try to get rid of the condensation if I take them out and do they need light??

Cold storage is for after your plates are colonized and you want to halt any growth on your plates so they dont overgrowth the plate.
You should just wrap your inused plates well and store them alongside the other plates IMHO that will help prevent all that condensation.
And dont worry about it man we all start at some point with no experience. Give yourself a pat on the back for starting with agar right away, that was a smart move!

It's 100% okay but the fridge is not necessary The fridge is generally used to stall growth and store colonized plates n jars n such for longterm. I personally have 2 jars of pf classic and Cambodian rust spore I noc'd up with an ms syringe. They aren't bacterial or contaminated. I've had them for maybe a year and a half now. Neither show signs of contamination or degradation. I use them for G2A transfers. They start of relatively clean based on the movements in the sab.
When storing agar the only thing you're really concerned about is losing moisture and having it dry out.Quote:

Ok huge help here, thank you a lot!!I'm amazed how quickly you get help here, you guys are great. Also everyone's advice is agar so I felt i really should give it a try. I'll storage all the plates in a box at room temp (around 70F) and I guess I will try to make a next batch even i only have some 6 cm petri dishes left (hopefully not to small) and wait more until pouring the agar so i get rid of condensation.
Namaste
