Still edible?
    #26430596 - 01/13/20 01:57 AM (4 years, 16 days ago)

So do you think this would still be edible? I cut off the inch or so of rot and the rest of the cactus look good. Also I don't usually make tea but just dehydrate the inner green flesh and chew on them like jerky. I get little to almost no nausea this way.

Do you think the by cutting the rot off and dehydrating it would be safe to still eat?

Yes cut of the rot and you'll be fine. There are many reports of people who have made brews from rotted cacti and had no ill effects(i wouldnt recommend it, but...).

Also definitely cut ~4" or so off the top and plant it:thumbup:

:rofl2: now your a cactus expert to...incredible

Your knowledge of things you have no experience with is astounding KJ. Have you ever made cactus tea? Do you even have a Trichocereus?

I wasn't advising that he eat the rot, just explaining the fact that many have brewed it and had no ill effects. I definitely wouldn't mess with it if your eating it raw. Cutting away the visible rot, like he said he did, is more than enough. You're good to go OP.

Nice.

I got 2 ft of green flesh ready to go whenever I'm ready....will keep updates...

In other news just got another bridgesii that arrived today that will get potted and cared for.

And 2 additional cultiVAR bridgesii on the way, so that'll be 3 different Var of bridgesii I'll have in my new garden. It's exciting. :sunny:
