All young and fresh:
All not-so-young-and-fresh-anymore. Super interesting interview about his life:
A kinda cool NYT edited thing about his views of internet data:
I liked that last video. Edited well. Interesting. And, it features this highly intelligent and odd appearing individual named, yes, Jaron Lanier. (As it says in the title). Apparently a child of some out-there Jewish Lost Generation Era Europeans that moved to New Mexico in the 60's (?) and he was a midwife's assistant and etc (if you watched the second video, you already know all of this. When he was a teen, he got a car as payment for one of those deliveries and eventually drove to the Bay Area. Oh. Also, he passed a bunch of classes and scrored very highly on math tests as a kid and was, what seems to me to be, a precocious 20-year-old 90's tech bubble guy who, like many of us, though I was in no way whatsoever in any sort of position of change and hope and promise as he managed to work his way into, really thought the 90s and year 2000 was going to be Something.
As such, I think, perhaps, he's suffered a bit? A Huge Letdown, maybe. He seems quite a bit more empathic and humble now than he did in the 90s. I don't really know.
It can go either way with suffering, I've found, sadly, from personal experience. Bitterness and anger/hatred (wanting the world to end for everyone) and also deep empathy for humanity.
Sooo anyways... main point being he's focused on stuff I find interesting and seems like a really very *kind* and caring person (with a humorous laugh that I like) and is into the internet and social media and humanity and human psychology (and I'm sure psychedelics).
I haven't even seen all of that JORDAN HARBINGER SHOW that I just found and posted up above. Just posted it quick to give you an idea and am listening as I type. I'm sort of cringing as I think Jordan comes off...I dunno. Not my type and misses a lot of social cues as far as asking him about this video game he invented, dolt, he's pausing waiting for you to ask! lol, etc.
Sooo, here's the point. Go look up some Jaron Lanier interviews and books and get into him if you haven't already. other than that...
What do you think of Mr Lanier? I'm really digging his message, too. Good to see he was active with Leary at some point. Poor Leary passed away ...or should I say, perhaps, lucky Mr Leary passed away before he could see what a shitstorm the US and world has become...after the big party leading up to 2000.
Now that we've come out the other end of the 90s tech bubble much darker and worse off.
Anyone who was 19-23 in 1999-2000 knows what I mean, probably. Any Westerner. (My, how the world ((or my worldview)) has changed!)
Less open and optimistic (ya don't say) and more taken advantage of and polarized in just about every measurement and pole that exists. Financially, racially, politically, I dunno, etc.
Here's one last video:
Have a great week and life if I don;t see ya again!

I like giving a fuck, though. I'm pretty much like an older dude who just chills and gives (way too much of) a fuck. About everything, lol. Also, not into any sorta group grow or group illegal shit with strangers...so, sadly, you may probably have to keep looking on that account.
I'll be your friend, though. If that's cool with ya.

Right on, I am gonna work over the next few months with some peers to try and create a better universe with the sacred fungus. So many mushrooms in my mind that need a home, but I am getting overwhelmed by all the new names...
Should I make my own database to name them, I think it is best?

Sure. If you're going full speed just remember to exercise your body as well (don't get too spun out just staying in your head too much, I guess) and always have a parachute or nice painkiller of some kind for the come down so it doesn't get too rough. That's my only advice, as someone who has enjoyed the intensity of boomin' and zoomin' before, if I'm readin' ya right. I dunno. Heard someone else mention tweakin in another thread so I may be off here. The internet is weird like that. Heh. Have fun, 'database away'!
My focus here at least is more finding ways to overcome what this guy Jaron is talking about which is the inherient sneakiness and ...frankly shittiness of so many social media platforms. Of this thing that unites...and yet separates us all. Unites us, but in very weird way where we're constantly talking past each other and misreading each other. And where there's ery little scene anywhere as everyone is inside, online.
So...
Back to ol' funny looking Jaron. Don't want to get too far away from that...
He kinda talks about the downsides of a lot of social media outlets here:
@ the 18minute mark.
Quote:
Whats happened with sort of mainstream social media is that it's taken over by this advertising paradigm an that it's optimized ...for fakeness. For paranoia and fake news and being 'shut down' or having a bunch of fake personalities (to astroturf).
What do you think about all that? Crazy, huh? Supposedly, they make billions off us (from our data that we give away for free...even here on TS) and we, seemingly, don't mind at all!
