How Long Can BRF Jars Sit After Colonization
    #26429781 - 01/12/20 02:19 PM (4 years, 17 days ago)

Hey folks, I'm very torn on what to do here

I have several jars fully colonized. Last night I spawned a few to 50/50 coir verm trays for a first time experiment. Problem is I have other jars that are fully colonized

On one hand I want to see if this technique works before going further with other cakes but I don't know if I have the option to wait two or so weeks of colonization to make the right choice

I could birth my other jars and start fruiting but my terrarium is one big greenhouse. I don't want the environmental fluctuations to disturb the myc that is colonizing the coir/verm

The other option is to commit all of my cakes to the coir/verm tek so we're all on the same damn page schedule wise. But I'm not used to this method and if anything goes wrong that's everything I have

my biggest question is how long can my fully colonized jars sit before they're useless

what the fuck do i do
what would you do

They can sit a long time. I have one right now over 80 days old. Supposedly they longer they go the more potent they’ll be.

But busting them up into coir works fine, way better than fruiting a cake.

goddamn, that is good to know thank you

the tek seemed simple enough but I'm not sure about how clean I was or if using a cheese grater was excessive but the myc will tell me that itself in a few weeks lol

Well, if you let them sit too long, they will fruit inside the jar.

After 100% colonization is reached, you have about 1-2 weeks before invitro fruiting starts.

As long as your spawn is fully colonized you don’t have to be super clean anymore. Won’t hurt though.

How come you made brf cakes instead of grains?

The jar im letting go 100 days did finally pop out 2 of the smallest shrooms ever a couple days ago, it’s a Burma ms so I guess I got genetics that don’t pin easily.

Definitely something to consider, I've had it happen to me within just a few days. 1 or two even

I'm very comfortable with BRF, had some supplies left over, and was tight on money

I want to get into grains but I don't have much time to fuck around at the moment with trial and error

Its always pretty unnerving to try something new like going to bulk. Its up to you how you want to "divide your risk" as there is a possibility of failure when attempting a new technique.

I find its best to start small with a new technique then once you have some successful grows, increase the capacity.

I agree for sure best to start small.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome though, you should definitely wait on the others until your trays are done. There’s a good chance you’ll regret fruiting the cakes if you did them now and then got an awesome flush with the coir and had no spawn left to do it again.
