Lighting for mono stack?
    #26429680 - 01/12/20 01:26 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hi folks. What's the best way to provide 12/12 light to a stack of 3 mono tubs when the sides and lids are clear? Would two 3' long LED hung vertically do the trick? Thanks for the ideas, peeps.

Note - I already have 2 3' 6500k LED lights, don't want to buy more gear if possible.

The light go on top

Don’t mean to sound like a dick, but what’s the question exactly?

*disclaimer
Read up on what I say, mainly here to provoke thought and curve ya into the right direction.
I'm not sure if it was one of yogis pics or not but someone on here uploaded a pic using those between tub stacks 3 high. The light strips were mounted to a wall vertically with maybe a 6 in gap(from the lighting ratio to the tub)
Only recalling off memory could be completely off.
Anyway my only thought where this may not work in your favor is booms like to grow in the direction of the light source. Ambient light should be enough if you just find a way to make do just wont be the most productive batch.

That's yogis write up not mine, dont credit me for it.
My current set up looks a little something like this

Can I hang two 3' long 6500k LED lights vertically next to a stack of three mono tubs?

Yes, you can. Keep in mind you may struggle with the direction of fruits once the light source isnt coming from above.

What size are your tubs? What's the difference in height when stacked compared to the length of your light?

It's definitely been done before I'd just aim to keep it higher as opposed to level

Dude. Light go on top.

Hang them vertically and you’re begging for side pins.

I agree. On top. Fruits will grow straight up. I think it looks better

This won't amount to much but an argument use that search function to learn about pinning triggers and draw a conclusion that you believe will work best for you

Edit: please for the love of god use that advanced search tool to filter out outdated threads anything older than 5 years has probably been fine tuned in another more up to date thread

Tubs are 66qt sters, 24x16x14. Yes, I know light on top is best. I use heavy black liners to try to minimize side pins.

Thanks for the input!

Liners are cool but black doesn’t do anything. If you use clear ones you can see what’s going on which is nice.

Oh, a whole new discussion.....black vs clear liners. Thought black best to minimize pinning trigger of light.

There are 3 main pinning triggers
Light is only a piece of it. Read up on some cult knowledge. They dont do this but think of a liner as suffocating parts of the sub.
Liners prevent the microclimates needed to produce fruits by sticking to the sub as it shrinks

Edit: didnt realize until after I posted just took part in a thread jack changing the pic like that.
If you're already using a liner you already understand why

You can run your light up the sides.  The light would be so dispersed it would be coming at it from all angles anyway.
Also, Bodhisatta says they know which way is up by sensing gravity, not the direction the light comes from so put your lights on the side if that works for you. It won't cause side pins unless your conditions were gonna cause side pins anyway

Why have my booms followed the direction of light in the past? Over the summer I had to rotate my monos for different sides to face my window(didnt have artificial lighting yet and there was plenty of natural) one of my tubs had a thick brown lid that didnt let light through. All the fruits would grow towards the outside of the tubs even the ones direct center
I'm sure bod is right definitely think the light source plays a role in the direction of the grow

I couldn't say why that happened. I don't have experience with that, just repeating what I read (hopefully I'm not misquoting him)
